The song was first recorded in 1932 by the Ray Noble Orchestra followed by several known artists including Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. Otis Redding had Isaac Hayes rearrange the composition for a slow, soulful opening that builds towards the end. Redding released his version in 1966 with Booker T. & The M. G.’s as the backing band.
