On the fundamental question--evolution or creation?--Americans are on the fence. According to one survey, while 61% of Americans believe we have evolved over time, 22% believe this evolution was guided by a higher power, with another 31% on the side of creationism. For some, modern science debunks many of religion's core beliefs, but for others, questions like "Why are we here?" and "How did it all come about?" can only be answered through a belief in the existence of God. Can science and religion co-exist?

(CBSNewYork) -- David Jimenez believed his devotion to a crucifix was responsible for his wife being cured of cancer. Well, the crucifix fell on him, crushing one of his legs.
And as CBS 2's John Slattery reported Friday, the leg had to be amputated.
Jimenez sees tragic irony in losing his leg to a crucifix he had prayed to. The crucifix had been outside the Church of St. Patrick in Newburgh. For months, the 45-year-old pizza worker would stop and pray at the crucifix, that his wife would be cured of ovarian cancer.
And she was.
"David attributed the cure to his devotion to that cross," Jimenez attorney Kevin Kitson said.
Because of that, Jimenez said, he got permission to clean the crucifix, which was long-neglected. But in doing so, the statue dislodged and toppled onto him.
"Throwing him down to the parking lot, crushing his right leg," Kitson said.
The attorney for Jimenez, who would not allow his client to speak, said the 600-pound statue was supported by a single screw in the base.
"The screw was useless. The screw is useless. It supported no anchoring system," Kitson said.
The church's pastor told CBS 2's Slattery by phone that parishioners collected food and some $7,000 for the Jimenez family, but Kitson said the insurance company for the archdiocese has been less than forthcoming. So, the injured man is suing.
Jimenez, who believes in the power of prayer, is now praying for a judgment, not from a higher authority, but from a civil court.
I don't know if you really think that when you die you can be corporeally reassembled, and have conversations with authors from previous epochs. It's not necessary that you believe that in Christian theology, and I have to say that it sounds like a complete fairy tale to me. The only reason I'd want to meet Shakespeare, or might even want to, is because I can meet him, any time, because he is immortal in the works he's left behind. If you've read those, meeting the author would almost certainly be a disappointment.
But when Socrates was sentenced to death for his philosophical investigations, and for blasphemy for challenging the gods of the city — and he accepted his death — he did say, well, if we are lucky, perhaps I'll be able to hold conversation with other great thinkers and philosophers and doubters too. In other words the discussion about what is good, what is beautiful, what is noble, what is pure, and what is true could always go on.
Why is that important, why would I like to do that? Because that's the only conversation worth having. And whether it goes on or not after I die, I don't know. But I do know that that's the conversation I want to have while I'm still alive. Which means that to me, the offer of certainty, the offer of complete security, the offer of an impermeable faith that can't give way, is an offer of something not worth having. I want to live my life taking the risk all the time that I don't know anything like enough yet; that I haven't understood enough; that I can't know enough; that I'm always hungrily operating on the margins of a potentially great harvest of future knowledge and wisdom. I wouldn't have it any other way.
And I'd urge you to look at... those people who tell you, at your age, that you're dead till you believe as they do — what a terrible thing to be telling to children! And that you can only live by accepting an absolute authority — don't think of that as a gift. Think of it as a poisoned chalice. Push it aside however tempting it is. Take the risk of thinking for yourself. Much more happiness, truth, beauty, and wisdom will come to you that way.Ultimate Hitch Slap (MUSIC REMOVED)ChristopherHitchslap2012-07-19 | Due to overwhelming request to remove the music from the original. A small sign advertises the building as the Full Gospel Apostolic House of the Lord Jesus and lists the pastor as Mack Randall Wolford as well as worship times. Several videos were posted on YouTube of the church's worship services and many depict Wolford handling serpents as part of services.
On Sunday, Wolford and other parishioners gathered at Panther State Forest in McDowell County as part of homecoming worship services where he was bitten in his thigh by a timber rattlesnake.
After the services, Wolford was taken to a parishioner's home in the Plainview Mobile Home Park in Brushfork. Wolford was then transported to Bluefield Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries on Monday.
Dr. David Booth is a doctor of Evolutionary Genetics, which means Kent Hovind never stood a chance with him in this debate. This video demonstrates just how little Kent Hovind really understands about science.
Throughout the video, Hovind just keeps stringing sentences together with no real meaning or understanding of what the hell he's trying to say.
