(I actually edited this vid earlier, but only am posting it now...) I framed this like my gift to WhispertheWolf, with an inspiring score, thematic VOs and gentle editing. I never used the book series' quotes in a video before, but I adore the book series. They can be even more deep and moral than the films, so I was thrilled to be able to use quotes directly from David Tennant's narration of the books. So while editing this, I really felt like it should try to capture the meaning inherent in this HTTYD franchise -- the bond between boy and dragon, the dream of coexistence, the love, and Hiccup's destiny as a chief and a uniter.
I know the first VO is actually Wodensfang's dream, but in translation it fits Hiccup and, from the books, Hiccup Haddock the First's story in reaching out to his people's enemy, the force of his conviction and his love, that not all people need to be vengeful or violent against those who have been the same to them. That reaching out from one side can inspire goodness in the other, that the determination to believe in goodness can produce the same in both yourself and others, because it's true -- the ability for good and for ill lies always within us.

Well this is rather unprecedented!! Been a while since I posted a video, and part of that was Life, part of that was my computer being short on memory (hence screwing up my video editor) but my sister and I got into Star Wars recently and now Im pumped for The Force Awakens.
So, quickly now… why Luke Skywalker? Hes a simple boy with a far-flung dream to be something more than what his life was back home. Hes struck by tragedy at every turn and comes out of it a grown man, but still so very vulnerable. Hes good, convicted, wide-eyed, powerful… and through it all, still a child looking for a mentor, a confidant, a father. In the end it is his unadulterated, truly unconditional love that brings him to accept, love, and change his father, Darth Vader. The mythic power, angst, and Shakespearean glory is astounding. Ugh.
Im also really in love with the concept of the Force and how much mythology George Lucas put into his world. Like Tolkien, he created a universal story that fits the template of all great Myth and thus created the SW phenomenon that we have today. As for the Force, it was meant to have universal elements of all faiths and right now I love having that spiritual component suffused in this world.

The song is all me. Lately Ive been feeling like I need to get out and DO something with my life. So a lot of my online hiatus has been in reading, watching stuff, trying to capture all the culture I feel I missed. I have big dreams, and I want to one day fill the hole in my heart with all the things I always said Id be. This is the first time Ive used caption words like this; Im excited. I just love the feels we threw into this in general.

RIP Leonard Nimoy, 1931-2015, a man of gentleness, wisdom, and humanity.
Well this is sure coming out of nowhere! I never even mentioned before how Star Trek was an old fandom of mine, alight some 8 years ago. The news of Nimoys passing in February saddened me, then inspired me as I learned about his life. The old nostalgia came back, and since then Ive been so happy rediscovering this classic and the cast and crew behind it. Its chock-full of epic broship, humor, and quite insightful thematics. This vid was made to make up for the sorry shortage of Kirk/Spock/McCoy TOS videos out there. I ADORE this trios friendship, banter, and chemistry. The reboot films dont quite capture the balmy fun of The Original Series, but I totally dig the clever callbacks and in-references JJ Abrams submerged in them. And who can deny the old USS Enterprise all prettied up in CGI? ;)

Not my most nit-picked outing, I made this fairly quickly for my standards. Courtesy the song, which gave itself well to slap-dash editing. Ive been quite busy with Life that it was quite fun to make something up on the spur of the moment. The song is one of my favorites, honest with its joyful sound and yet equally a tragic and uplifting vignette of the Challenger shuttle explosion of January 28, 1986.
Also, apologies for not getting back to folks here. Job search and other first world concerns took time and energy. *sniff*
