Well, hi. Litty visuals and performance, I know I know. NO I HAVE NOT SPED THIS UP FOR THE 7TH TIME. This took me just over a week to arrange, memorise, perform and edit. I feel like Patrik Pietschmann in this bizzle. I'm mainly experimenting with the visuals as of right now to try and be a MAINSTREAM MADLAD. Will only really consider doing this again for my Kanashii Ureshii cover and my Aliez cover but that's about it.
It's a shame my keyboard doesn't pick up my attempts to half pedal with my flat yamaha pedal, chorus would flow better otherwise. I made a few mistakes with timing in this performance but I think they can be somewhat overlooked at my current skill level what with the several high-risk items I managed to (just about) pull off in this.
Apologies if I've unintentionally ghosted anyone reading this rn. I had a severe breakdown recently due to a gradual build-up of a variety of things over time and I have deleted most of my social media indefinitely to focus on fixing myself. Playing something v difficult for me on the piano is both therapeutic and limit testing so it's ideal for my mind rn; hence I'm still here on YT.
For Jorge, to honour the promise I made of covering your favourite OP back when we were young in Politics and our anuses were still our own. For Victoria, in honour of the inevitable piano-violin duet we'll have performing this OP when all the fochin corona nonsense is over!
FEEDBACK RESPONSE: In response to Mego's advice, I tried to put more feeling into this performance than I did with the SAO medley (which was somewhat easier as this is way shorter and I was just trying to get the Sao medley done and dusted) but in the chorus it was hard for me to capture the original depth of the voice on a piano so I kinda just went all out ngl. Also didn't really use mega arpeggios to tonic like I did in the Sao medley so I'll focus on the improvements of them in another piece.
In response to mainly Lenn's advice as well as CC's, 1. I tried to play toward the dynamic highlights far more throughout the piece, esp. with the crescendo in the beginning with the slow arpeggios as well as the crescendo from the bridge to the chorus. Also the sharp dynamic change after the first mini chorus as well as the gradual increase in volume throughout the verse. 3. Didn't really want to reimagine Evangelion OP too much so only got a bit creative in the upper registers. Did get kinda creative in the lower registers though. 4. I did a decent job of stopping unnecessary close intervals in this tbf. 5. Not gonna lie, those jumps in the 2nd part of the chorus and the octave chromatic scale from Eb to C in the chorus were an absolute flex because why not lmao. Spoke with a piano teacher on yt and he said it's not really that bad to overarrange or flex, it's just you figuring out what pianist you want to be, which I can deffo understand and appreciate being self-taught and still so new to the instrument. 7. Yeah tried to pedal at more crucial points in this, like during the chorus trying to replicate exactly how Animenz pedaled in his cover at the octave Ab Bb. If I did hold down the pedal for a kind of ridiculous amount of time, it was intentional... if there are bits you don't think worked, pls lemme know x 8. So I tried to focus on structure wayyyy more here than the SAO medley, such as barely using octaves in the verse with lowered overall volume and then spamming octaves and chords in the chorus with overall greater volume, as well as increasing from single notes and close intervals eventually to octaves as the verse went on. Additionally, the left hand gets more difficult and intense as the verse goes on, building up, and explodes into the chorus to understand you've transitioned from the verse to the classic hook. The massive jumps near the end also signify the end of the chorus and the showy, grand end of the performance, which kind of makes my repitition of the guitar riff at the end questionable, but I personally like it like that :). The start of the song could be faster though, takes up waaaaayy too much time.
Miss y'all xx
