Oatman, Arizona was once one of the most productive gold mining towns in the state. Tucked into the Black Mountains along what would later become Route 66, the town experienced a rapid boom, a devastating fire, and a sharp decline when the gold ran out.

Today, Oatman survives as a preserved snapshot of Arizona’s mining past, shaped just as much by the road through the mountains as by the gold beneath them. In this video, we explore Oatman’s history, walk through the town, and look at how a remote boomtown found a second life along Route 66.
