Curriculum: The core of our program is creating rapid learning materials. This is a combination of Design Guides, the hands-on Rapid Learning Facility (RLF), and supporting design software, and supporting technologies. The Design Guides explain both design principles and effective building techniques, which apprentices can practice effectively in the RLF. The key information outcomes include design guides, part libraries in CAD, and build instructionals ranging from build cheatsheets, videos, infographics, diagrams, all the way up to language-agnostic instructionals. This curriculum covers the Seed Eco-Home, aquaponic greenhouse, landscaping and earthworks, PV and utilities, construction/earthworking machines, surveying, house design, house automation and data collection, build quality control, and construction materials. This would be an ongoing, parallel effort executed as soon as qualified individuals are recruited to produce distilled content. We are aiming at unique, integrated curriculum that is simply not found anywhere else - but which we believe is possible when an integrated, hands-on, multifaceted approach is taken with the incentive of making a good living with significant growth opportunities.. We are trying to address the diverse, integrated skill sets that enable the building of a better world - as the build process is otherwise highly disintegrated. Key long-term educational goals are to enable long-term growth of builders into positions of higher responsibility as technical developers, managers, teachers, and innovators who push the state of art and open new options to other people.
Supporting Software - Assists the curriculum development effort with creating open source part libraries, part designers, and templates for technically-proven, code-compliant modules in FreeCAD, Sweet Home 3D, and Blender, and other open source software. The key outcome is enabling full technical and conceptual design capacity of the Seed Eco-Home within the above open source software packages - accessible to novices and experts alike. This includes drag-and-drop design capacity for all the house elements and subsystems, and automated extraction of Bills of Materials. This is useful for producing new or custom house designs, including technical detail for extracting build detail and build drawings. After the full model is complete in CAD, this paves the way for building simple AR apps that facilitate material/part identification, which will be used in our Rapid Learning Facility. The work product includes a complete digital model that allows for easy creation of procedural instructions - which is the basis for any future designs and builds.
(1) Rapid Learning Facility - Build-practice infrastructure where students work on module assembly with prepared, partially assembled modules. Bays with Module Assembly Stations will work together with computer terminals, video camera stations for documentation, and AR material identification apps - so that students can learn, perform build tasks, and document them for learning and tracking/evaluation purposes. The build modules are assembled and taken apart repeatedly for learning purposes, so that each student is exposed rapidly to a whole range of build expertise. Students take time lapse video as a transparent way to document their progress, which sets a pathway for easy and transparent performance evaluation. The key outcomes are ~24 practice stations with time lapse video where students assemble various modules of the seed eco-home and track their learning rate with a transparent leaderboard that shows everyone’s progress in time. (2) Computer Lab -. Includes 6 3D printers for modeling, prototyping, scale model kits, and new building product development. Design, rendering, analysis software for the Seed Eco-Home. Aerial drone-based surveying/photography/3D mapping. 3D scanning and digital twinning. Includes technology for data acquisition, sensing, automation, and control of a smart home. Includes basic apps and hardware for computer vision, augmented reality, and remote control, and automation. Platforms focus on the Arduino, Beagleboard, and Linux platforms (all open source). Includes site design software, surveying equipment including RTK GPS, and GIS software. Thus, our technology includes full capacity for surveying, site planning, and site documentation using manual methods and mission-planned drones. Purchases will be made as soon as possible as they are critical to our teaching capacity.

But really, before that we need to create an Apprenticeship Program for the builders of a new civilization. Here's finalization of the ARPA workforce training grant.

What exactly does it take?
From this meeting, the answer is: 2 good, full time Unity programmers to generate the basic platform over about 2 months, at a pay scale of $100-150k/year.
The expected output for producing 100 modules in detail for the Seed Eco-home is about 2 weeks per VR module of 25 parts, and 4 weeks per AR module of about 25 parts in the assembly. It appears to be a laborious, manual process.
For 100 modules, that calculates to 200 weeks or 4 years of VR ($300k), and 400 weeks or 8 years ($600k) for AR. Initial work is 6 months ($150k) and the subsequent years could likely be done at $75k/yr. Total budget is on the oder of $1.0M. This would not scale well to all the modules we want to document by 2028 (50 machines x 24 modules roughly), so a scalable, open source process for achieving this must be created.
Because design evolution happens fast, the XR materials/instructionals would never keep up with the current designs, making this process a futile exercise without a significant effort to automate the XR materials production process so that any bill of materials can be converted into detailed build procedures. Significant innovation is needed here. What is the available stae of art to build upon?

The 5 day build with 24 people on site is becoming more real every day.
Wait till we start the 3D printed panels, solar concrete, and home hydrogen fueling stations, just to name a few. Such discussion exposes the inefficiencies of a system built on a historical legacy - which is not the same as the art of possibility.

Jon is leading this.
I would focus this on 'Rapid Learning Infrastructures' consisting both of digital and physical assets that enable the rapid knowledge transfer. This is highly consistent with the 'recruitment and training' focus of the grant. This is what I've been experimenting with for the last decade, so i could probably write another PhD thesis on this. I am now convinced that rapid learning learning of integrated skill sets is possible to a transformative extent, transitioning society from silos and disintegrated design to systems design that meets peoples' needs in a much deeper way. From job satisfaction to making a better world. But structurally - the system is designed to produce disintegrated results, leading to disintegrated humans. Integrated experiential learning can address this gap, and can be injected into all institutions of learning.
But it is not going to be easy: it requires rethinking the current infrastructure to one that provides applied, relevant, integrated skill sets - which requires much more of the student. Information technology can help. OSE can integrate the physical plant with augmented and virtual reality systems, apps, and software - that can now lead a student to learn skills 10x faster than in a traditional setting. And this is not just talk- this is ecactly what we're doing with the Seed Eco-Home apprenticeship. Our model currently can get graduates at top 2% of the industry pay - after as little as a 6 month apprenticeship! The challenge is:
develop curriculum - high quality, integrated curriculum based around build skills first, and second design skills, culminating with applying design skills with entrepreneurship to create a movement where any graduate coming out of the extended program (1 year build training, 1 year design training, 1 year enterprise) can contribute meaningfully to open source product development. This is not about working for somebody - it's about learning to design and build the world around us.
integrate with a facility that is separated into a number of bays focusing on individual learning topics (learn everything about plumbing, electrical, carpentry, foundations, roofing, construction tools, fasteners, automation, machines, PV system, aquaponics, etc). These are learning areas in real space with partially prepared modules and models where people can rapidly experiment, build things like Legos, collect performance data, document with video for both testing, learning, recruiting, and teaching purposes.
Create supporting augemented reality/quality control/inventory apps, design software for design and calculations, online design tools based on FreeCAD or other open software, other training software including the massive multiplayer game for build collaboration - gamification of the learning. Digitize everything, including a refined design of the production workshop, so this can be replicated widely around the world. The MMOG videogame and online house design tool with FreeCAD or SweetHome3D are excellent recruiting tools in themselves.
Teach collaborative literacy - all the above is for naught if we don't include a system for collaboration for continuous improvement that prevents the current pathetic state of each business reinventing the wheel trying to develop their own products. Create a common core and collaboration tools, part libraries, and repositories, online design tools, etc. This means how do we collaborate with a large team spread around the world - documenting all the assets in an organized way. It takes a significant mind shift for people to think this way - and our program will teach this. Final projects (after year 1) involve collaborative authoring of curriculum, based on existing curriculum from startup.
I would do something like 10% physical plant (populating the rapid learning bays with equipment, data acquisition tools, IT and video tools), and 90% curriculum/digital infrastructure in the 1-4 above. Focus of funding is once again - rapid learning and collaboration tools.
How do we meet training goals? We start our Apprenticeship, which already has thousands of hours of development work that went into it. This will go no matter what at whatever level we have. We add the training infrastructure as funds allow - whether bootstrapped or this grant. I'm looking at minimum $1M net next year from 50 houses built.

This year is a big one for OSE as we are nearing traction on a revenue model that can deliver on the promise of creating the open source economy. Release of the Seed Eco-Home - in the form of a 24-person swarm build of a 1000 square foot, code-compliant home in 5 days - would be big news for the world. Average homes in the USA take 36x longer to build. The promise of radical efficiency of open source design and collaboration is at stake here. Once successful, there will be a potential cascade of evolution in the business world, as people recognize that open, collaborative, distributive enterprise is possible for economic traction. Nobody believes this today, or at least nobody is doing it. To get there, we document the Seed Eco-Home, and prove the business model with 4 builds for real customers in October and November 2022. Join us. Join our weekly meeting to collaborate on documentation - see meeting link and sign up on our Collaboration Team Form - wiki.opensourceecology.org/wiki/Seed_Eco-Home_Collaboration_Team. Or sign up for the wait list for the house - we plan on building a minimum of 25 in 2023, and if all goes really well - hundreds. wiki.opensourceecology.org/wiki/Seed_Eco-Home_Interest_List. The Seed Eco-Home Rosebud model: it is stick frame, and we're developing the Compressed Earth Block version next.

We found surprisingly that funding is not an issue for their chapter - they appear to have no problem getting grants. However - land is a major issue for them. They have a hard time finding suitable land to build on. In this package - we were trying to see how OSE would fit in. My surprise was that a $100k home was not of immediate interest, even though we could build in 5 days instead of 16 months and $450k of their typical build schedule. One block is: 'how will you build for us if you are located in Kansas City? Comments on what is going on are welcome.
