Apologies for the error.There will be moments you curse the stars because you feel cheated that a CO has somehow got their power in such a timely fashion again. There will be moments when a medium tank roars out of the Fog of War and decimates a unit you just built and lined up to swing things in your favour. But that’s all part of war, isn’t it?The unpredictability of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp is either something you’re on board with, or not. Minecraft Legends review | Block and Battle God is a Geek 2023-04-14 | Minecraft Legends is a fantastic strategy title that has more layers to it than I expected. When you begin to understand the systems at play, you're free to be as creative as you want. The interface is easy to get to grips with, and the scale of some of the bigger battles is like nothing I've seen before. Mojang has managed to give players of all skills and ages a way to enjoy what many understand about the franchise, yet give a much different twist on the gameplay. Despite some issues controlling my mobs, or having them fall off cliffs or down chasms when I least needed it, I can't think of a similar game in recent memory that I've enjoyed playing quite this much. Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp is a faithful remake so far | Hands-on preview God is a Geek 2023-04-05 | Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp, so far, seems to scratch an itch I didn’t know I had. Failure isn’t met with frustration, instead it’s greeted with a smile, and a hurried restarting of a battle with a want to do better. I may still be relatively early on in the campaign, but despite having played these games over twenty years ago, they feel fresh again. The cartoon-aesthetic feels right for the characters (mostly), and some of the music absolutely slaps. If you go in expecting to be a master because of the tactics-titles you’ve played recently, you’re going to get your ass handed back to you. From Mario Maker (which is still going fairly strong) to Dreams or, of course, LittleBigPlanet, devs went through a short spell of letting the player design the game using tools they provided and, well, there are multiple reasons that it's not a hugely successful concept. For one, gamers as a general rule are not developers, and so anything they make has a fair chance of being shite. The really good stuff is always the exception, not the rule. I didn’t get a sense of scale for how big or long the game might be, I didn’t get chance to try co-op and see how well everything links up, I only managed to try out Layla (and Jacob really does look awesome). Tchia review | Moana the Game God is a Geek 2023-03-20 | Awaceb has built an open-world adventure game filled with wonder and adventure. It’s not particularly difficult, but it’s about having fun and introducing you to cultures you may not have encountered before. If you want to skip forward to chapters further into Tchia’s story, or bypass exploration to get to the next mission, the option to do so is there. There’re no walls to block progress, and you’re never forced to struggle. Even defeating the fabric-based creatures by burning them with lamps isn’t too tough, but rather an extension of the varied gameplay. Tchia is about love, family, and adventure. Resident Evil 4 Remake review | Youre definitely buyin God is a Geek 2023-03-17 | Resident Evil 4 Remake has done the impossible and made arguably the best game in the series significantly better. All we really needed to was for the remake to tighten up the controls and update the visuals, but instead Capcom added a whole host of new mechanics, made every boss fight significantly more epic, and fleshed out a lot of beloved characters with an improved story and tons more voice lines. I want to get that out of the way right here and now, because with a game that has been this long coming, it’s almost a surprise that it works at all, let alone the fact that after five hours of playing, I kinda wanted to… just keep playing. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty review | Way of the Dragon God is a Geek 2023-03-02 | Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a 500-year-old, 800,000-word epic novel detailing the fall of the Chinese Han Dynasty. It has been translated into multiple languages, adapted into movies, graphic novels, plays, and, notably, video games, with Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors franchise cribbing heavily from the historical tome - albeit with a little extra nonsense thrown in. Scars Above review | What lies beyond? God is a Geek 2023-02-28 | Scars Above is a clever and engaging third-person shooter that shares similarities with titles like Returnal and the Souls series, but it does more than enough to make it stand apart from them. It’s skill tree is straightforward, yet it can offer some vital skills and improvements that can change the course of your adventure, and if you want to redistribute how you spend skill points at any time, you’re always free to do so. The planet features some fantastic biomes designed beautifully, although some of the cutscenes are rusty, and the lip-syncing is pretty poor. Kirbys Return to Dream Land Deluxe review | Fairytale of Fun God is a Geek 2023-02-22 | There’s really very little to complain about with Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, aside from the lack of challenge that will put some people off. I enjoyed every second of it, and found myself growing in affection for it the more I played. Company of Heroes 3 review | War blimey! God is a Geek 2023-02-20 | Company of Heroes 3 is a game about making those split second heroic decisions, dealing with a sudden influx of enemy reinforcements, when one moment the odds are in your favour and the next they're against you. Holding down a defensive position or snatching victory from the jaws of certain defeat - these moments always feel emergent and, importantly, earned.
