Like Static Reflection, this song has been in in progress for well over a year. I attempted a lot of styles that were new to me, which made the production significantly more difficult than anything I've done before, so I'm very glad it's finally out! I hope you all enjoy :)

The visuals on this section took me approximately 700 hours to complete. If I had rendered them on my computer, it would have taken over a month straight of rendering, but luckily SheepIt (an incredible free decentralized renderfarm) exists!

The music took an additional ~72 hours to create, not including time spent by the all the awesome musicians who contributed sounds and samples.

Musical Russian Roulette

Over the past year I've been doing daily music writing practices as frequently as I can. In one type of practice, creative subversions (based almost entirely on the exercise by @Frequentaudio in this great video youtu.be/yXfacH_LGuI?si=g44ALNnClH1G72uy), I write down a set of rules designed to challenge myself and break existing habits, and then do a 40 minute session with the rules as guidelines. I would highly recommend any musician with enough free time to do exercises like this daily give it a try! My style and values as a artist have changed a lot through it. Making your own rules is always preferable since it makes the practice more personal and thus more useful, but feel free to use any of the rulesets in this video as inspiration if you need a place to start!

I haven't gone super in depth due to lack of time (and interest in doing so), and I am unsure of the exact process YouTube uses to choose where this effect is applied and how extreme it is, but there seems to be a fair amount of inconsistency. If anyone would like to do a more in-depth analysis, here I am using the free MAGC plugin from Melda to match the gain of one track to another and display the compensation amount! For a proper analysis, uploading various test videos with volume swells at various frequencies and speeds would be a good starting place. I also have a hunch that the compression is applied more subtly if the video is already close to their target level; very quiet and very dynamic videos seem to have more aggressive compression, at least in these tests. I could be wrong here though.

Across the Spider-Verse has become my favorite movie of all time (at least until Beyond the Spider-Verse comes out haha). Nothing I've seen before has inspired me as much artistically :)

So, I made this remix to try and contribute to all the great art in and surrounding this movie! I attempted to mix a bit of my own style in, but still keep the vibes of the song in-keeping with the tone of the film. I also had some fun recreating various sounds and motifs to sneak in as well B)

I made the visuals here by doing a bunch of procedural stuff in Blender to the existing cover art, and then added some extra effect spice on top with the watercolor-type background. Definitely inspired by the visual style of Gwen's universe.

I also experimented with some more hyperpop-y vocals for the first drop, and tried out the strat of rendering out whole drops and then cutting them up to change the flow, which I think worked really well! (that's why the beginning of the second drop is just like 2 tracks apart from the drums haha)

I tried combining basses with wood and water noises, adding some processed bird sounds, stuff like that. The lead in the first drop is actually just me humming with a ton of distortion lmaooo

I also got really inspired by Space Laces with the dominate vip coming out, as well as by Mr. Bill from hype of the Phantasmagoria remixes album, so those themes definitely come through in this song haha

31 DAYS, 31 SONGS - a continuous mix

2L&L 2022-11-09 | Last month I made a song all 31 days of October. I took inspiration from the daily Inktober prompts and managed to create some of my favorite work so far, so I decided to make a continuous mix of all the best parts!

I like producing a diverse selection of genres, so this mix smoothly (i hope) shifts between everything from pop and rnb to hardstyle and color bass!

Today is my 30th day of making a song every day for inktober! Today the prompt was "gear", so I got a bunch of gear samples and processed them to sound like a cool beat. I then wrote some lyrics over it telling a story I made up. This might be my favorite song from this series so far!
