Chapman Falls Devils Hopyard State Park CT Dragon Roams 2025-03-17 | Today I visit a new state park for me this one is in Connecticut. Devil's Hopyard State park with not having all my usual winter hiking gear I pick a short trail that features Chapman Falls. This made for a nice short winter hike.
Adirondack Winter 2025 Day 2 - Camp & Hike Dragon Roams 2025-02-17 | This trip we head to the Adirondack Mountains of New York. First night using a hot tent went very well. I actually kept the stove stocked through the night it was super comfortable considering the low was 0f outside. For our next hike we drive to the Trailhead just down the road from the LOJ and set out for Mount Von Hoevenberg. This hike requires you to at least have snowshoes with you. If I remember correctly ADK High Peaks wilderness requires snowshoes to be worn once you are over 2500 feet of elevation when there is snow on the ground.
Adirondack Winter 2025 Day 1 - Hike & Camp Dragon Roams 2025-02-10 | This trip we head to the Adirondack Mountains of New York. With the long drive done and camp setup we set out to hike the trails of Henry's Woods.This ended up being a great little network of trails not far from Lake Placid.
Ashokan High Point Catskills 2025 Dragon Roams 2025-01-27 | The Catskills of New York State is one of those places that if I go to long without visiting I feel a definite pull to go back. On this trip I head to the Ashokan High Point with Kurt to get a winter day hike in with the hopes that we might get to use our snowshoes. This was a new hike for both of us and even though it wasn't exactly what we though it was a great time out.
Bear Creek Preserve Purple Loop Dragon Roams 2025-01-06 | On this years post Thanksgiving hike we set out on one of our local trail systems, Bear Creek Preserve. The preserve has a nice small collection of trails that run through it and is generally well maintained in my experience hiking there. AT Section Caledonia State Park to Rattlesnake Road Dragon Roams 2024-10-07 | We return to the AT in Pennsylvania for this overnight backpacking trip. This day two of the trip has us starting from our hike in Caledonia State Park to Rattlesnake Road parking area. I got my new mesh tent out for it's 1st trip and had a little bit of a learning experience with it in the storm we got. Overall it did well. This day one of the trip has us ending our hike in Caledonia State Park to camp. I've never backpacking into a campground so this was a little new.I got my new mesh tent out for it's 1st trip and had a little bit of a learning experience with it in the storm we got. Pine Grove to RT 34 section hike Dragon Roams 2024-09-09 | On this adventure we day hike out of Pine Grove Furnace State Park heading north to Route 34. Panda and Kurt joined me for this hike this puts the 3 of us one section closer to finishing the AT in Pennsylvania.
AT Section Scott Farm to Duncannon Dragon Roams 2024-08-19 | The 1st clip of the video was shot on my phone and I'm not sure why it is such bad quality so please excuse that. The rest of the video is of my normal level.With that aside come tag along as we continue our efforts to finish out the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania. We have Kurt and Shadow along with us for this hike and it made for a great time. We spend some time hanging out in the shelter with other hikers. Overall the hiking is what we have come to expect from southern PA well maintained mostly smoother trail which the feet are thankful for.

Kentucky Trip 24 - PT2 Dinosaur World and Onyx Cave Dragon Roams 2024-06-24 | On day 2 we decide to take the kids to Dinosaur World this place looked cool from the road and as soon as our Sapling saw it we knew we had to go. But lets be honest I was as happy to check that place out as the kids. After which we reconnect with the girls from Iowa and we head to Onyx Cave to get a cave tour in. This was a fun 30 minute experience that was perfect. All out first timers to caves did a great job.
Kentucky Trip 24 - PT1 getting there Dragon Roams 2024-06-17 | First of all I'm sorry for some of the scratchy effects in the audio I'm using a new tripod/ selfie stick. I'm not sure what is causing it at the moment.Join us as we make our way to Mammoth Cave National Park to camp with some friends for a 3 night 4 day trip. This is a family friendly vacation with hanging out at camp, exploring a cave, Dinosaur World, and of course some hiking.

AT Section Hike Clarks Ferry to PA Rt325 Dragon Roams 2024-05-06 | Today I set foot on the Appalachian Trail this time to fill in a section that will catch me up to Panda. This bring us one step closer to being able to finish the Pennsylvania section of the trail together. After my last trip my tripod broke until I find a replacement I like I have brought out my trekking pole mount. I haven't used that set up in years.
Slide Mountain - Catskills Dayhike Dragon Roams 2024-04-15 | With Panda wanting to visit the Catskills again this time our destination is Slide the tallest mountain in the Catskills. With a detour to pick up Kurt we head to NY. We expected to see some snow but the amount that this section of the Catskills has was a pleasant surprise. The week before we visited Kaaterskill Falls and there was no snow. Come tag along as we take in this winter wonderland in April.
AT Hike - Pinnacle and Pulpit Rock 2024 Dragon Roams 2024-03-18 | Very small section this time around 8.5 miles. One of my favorite day hikes in PA but today we set out with the goal to join two sections of the AT together for Shadow. This gives him a nice stretch completed as he works towards completing the state.

Adirondack Winter Trip Day 2 - Avalanche Lake Dragon Roams 2024-02-26 | With rain in the forecast we day hike to Avalanche Lake. This is a beautiful area back in 2022 Panda and I backpacked through here in the summer for her birthday. It was great getting to see it in a different season and getting Kurt out there.

AT Section Hike - Eckville Shelter to Port Clinton Dragon Roams 2024-01-29 | With rain in the forecast we decide to change the planned 3 day trip into a 2 day trip. This section allows us to use a side trail to cut down the overall mileage making it an easy adjustment to the plan. With the storm that moved in the next day this was the right call to make so it all worked out.
AT Section Hike - PA RT309 to Eckville Shelter Dragon Roams 2024-01-22 | On this trip we pick up near Blue Mountain along Pennsylvania Route 309 and head to Eckville Shelter. The shelter area is our camp for the night. This shelter has a caretaker who was very accommodating to us hiking through in the off season.
First Hike 2024 Dragon Roams 2024-01-15 | With a good snow storm hitting the area I couldn't resist getting out for a short hike. On this one I also get to try out my MSR Revo Ascent snowshoes as we received over 12 inches of snow.

AT Section Hike PA - Rt443 to Rt325 Dragon Roams 2023-12-18 | On this trip we tackle another section of the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania. We are closing in on finishing the state. This was a great section with mostly smooth hiking and couldn't ask for much better weather. The beaver dam crossing was interesting and if you plan on doing this section during a rainy period you might want to take the bypass trail. The bypass is marked with signs at sides so its easy to see regardless of your direction of travel.

Sunset Rocks - Michaux State Forest Pa Dragon Roams 2023-11-27 | Wanting to day hike but storms hitting most of the area we head to southern Pennsylvania to hike Sunset Rocks. We see a bit of a state park, state forest, and the AT during this hike. Very nice trail with a fun bit of rock scrambling.
Lake Placid Olympic Jump Complex 2023 Dragon Roams 2023-10-23 | The next adventure on our trip to the Adirondacks of NY is the Ski Jump complex. It wasn't a planned stop but it was a fun one. We got to watch kids of all ages training. Panda surprised us with tickets to ride the gondola to the top of the hill and get a closer look at the jumps. You can even go to the top of the big jump. I hope you enjoy our perspective of this experience.
Owls Head - Adirondacks, NY Dragon Roams 2023-10-16 | This year we return to the Adirondacks for our vacation. Staying at the LOJ made for a nice base to launch from for all the adventures we tackled over the 4 days. This is the 1st of those adventures.
New Logo reveal Dragon Roams 2023-10-16 | Time for something new. I love my original dragon logo and plan to still use it for non hiking backpacking posts. However I really have been wanting a hiking focused one. I ended up with two new ones I'll share the first of those now.

So we picked a section of the AT a little closer to home so we can work a little closer to our goal of finishing the Pennsylvania section of the trail.We had a great time on trail with near perfect weather so come tag along on our first day of the trip.
Pinchot Trail north loop - day hike Dragon Roams 2023-04-24 | Today we return to the Pinchot Trail in the Pinchot State Forest. Some footage of the hike is lost. I'm not sure what happened if it was the gopro or my memory card that caused the issue but here is what I saved of the hike.With this hike Shadoe can check off the entire Loop. With having 2 cars we can avoid repeating most of the road walk which is always a bonus.
AT - Port Clinton to RT183 Dragon Roams 2023-03-20 | On this trip we changed a few plans on the fly but ended up with a nice overnight backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail. We check off another section in Pennsylvania this time heading south from Port Clinton to Route 183.
Pinchot Trail - Summer backpacking in November Dragon Roams 2022-11-16 | On this trip we set out with Shadoe for his second backpacking trip. We hoped it would be his 1st taste of backpacking in the cold but with the overnight low of 60F that wasn't meant to be. Still Kurt, Shadoe, Geri, and I had a great hike and it was a nice night to sleep in the hammock.
