I hope this video turned out good. Was a huge undertaking for me, spent several hours making this over a few days because I don't know how to use a video editor.
This demo was originally recorded back in June of 2022 - it's been over a year :)
Music:
Richard by Sunn O))) - youtu.be/6-JHmV5LMLM
Garden of Light by Isis - youtu.be/FVlNITMlyFQ
Stream highlight: youtu.be/_F3RYf7hPmw
Couple things I couldn't fit into the video:
-Huge bummer that all the comments and stuff from the original video is gone. Blame Zach Siegel for that.
-I did this because, well, for one, wanted to finish dimensions saveless, but also because I found it fun. Of course it wasn't fun all the time, I'd still get pissed every so often. It was never unbearable though. I wouldn't recommend trying this or any other hard run if it's giving you a bad time. Salt in doom is a real thing.
-Think I misspoke about the box fight, that megasphere is always there. You don't have to fight any cybers in the box if you do it before the secret BFG.
-You WanT to Be InMorTAL ,you WanT the Three FuCKiN SkuLLs ,You Have A
9mm ParaBelluM with ARmOR PierciNú BuLLeTS and ,of course ,you donúT BElieve
In Old-WomanS-StorieS-of-WitchEs and TroLLs!.

This felt fast, then I saw the splits and noticed some of the early maps were a tad slow. Regardless, this is a solid improvement. I'll stop at sub 9. I think this lays some solid foundation for anyone wanting to improve this.

Made a couple minor changes to the route and strategies from my 6m34. Had no idea sub-4 was even possible. It's a little ugly but I can't be bothered to optimize and nitpick.

Comments: screwing around looking for stuff to run and I realized I could maybe put down a faster route for this map. beating anc's previous time was easy. then I got wrapped up in trying to improve this. so much shit needs to go right, everything from cybers shooting at crucial moments to infight and imps teleporting in quickly at the end. took a lot of work but I think it's justified. this run looks more alright than my other exits and I'm done pushing my luck

Comments: had a look at this in preparation for the upcoming team assisted speedrun. route idea goes to maribo. i don't know how substantial this timesave is or how low the normal route can go. this does seem faster though.

Comments: Before I say anything about the demo, I want to thank this community for its constant support and encouragement. Thanks to Kinetic, Gosu, and 4shockblast for piquing my interest in this run. Thanks to Daerik and Nevanos for your UV-Max D2ALL runs and all the great streams that came with those. Thanks to 0xf00ba12 for helping lay the groundwork for this with the episode demos. Those are some underrated runs. Thanks to Kinetic, 0xf00ba12, Daerik, and 4shockblast for the various routes and strategies I borrowed from to make this possible. I may as well mention anyone who's done a pacifist/speed/nightmare/whatever IL run too, thank you for all the tricks that hold this demo together. Thanks to the the Pacifist Paradise server for being a place to theorycraft and for being full of great people. Thanks to everyone who was there for the streams of this run.
The inception of this run came as an excuse to replay sunlust again after some talk about what a Sunlust UV-Speed would look like and from watching Kinetic's max attempts of the wad. I had dabbled a lot with Sunlust's speed tricks when I started running Doom. This familiarity gave me a starting point with which to do some basic routing.
What I didn't realize going into this was just how tight my routes would have to be to make any progress with this run. It was constant practice, attempts, adjust the routes, and repeat. What came as a result is something totally different from what I started with. I'll try to mention the evolution of each map's route in the map comments.

Comments: Recorded for d2all practice. This is a run I nearly finished quite a while ago. I've come back to it because I needed more practice with the later maps to identify any issues that could kill d2all runs and see if the routes could hold up in a demo recording setting. The routes and strategies I use now have changed drastically from what I was doing before, most notably: all of map 30, all of map 18, technique for the north glides, and a better map 25. Map 21 is the only one subject to major route change at the moment. If there's a trick I'm not using for this run, there's probably a good reason for why. I'll elaborate more on the individual maps/give route credits in the d2all text file when I can get an exit. Crossing my fingers it doesn't take too long :) as of writing, my current d2all PB is map 25. I may revisit this run again for more practice. Map 30's cathedral killed several runs of this so it was probably more difficult than it should have been.

Comments: very sloppy run I made to demonstrate the route. This was a much larger timesave than I expected but I don't know if it has any practical use for non-TAS. Not all the time saved comes from the new route either. Apparently the ending of the last TAS I did was super slow and it can be done before the exit becomes accessible. Maybe it might be worth looking into the faster theoretical pacifist route next.

Comments: Take everything you dislike about berserk runs, combine that with everything you dislike about nightmare, and you get this run. Most of it is out of your control,
yet in order to get a competent time you'll need flawless execution when the RNG tables are in your favor. Good first half, bad middle, very good ending. Still much more time
to be saved but I'll gladly settle for a tic beat on JCD's demo.

Sick ass gimmick map by decino. Unfortunately the demo took a great deal of luck to get and was very frustrating, not to mention random crap I didn't bother to address before beginning attempts. There's a lot that needs to line up to get this all in one segment:
-starting room bs
-good HP
-tight movement
-archvile hallway :(
-good timings in vile closet room
-having enough missiles for the end
On top of all this, low framerate makes it incredibly difficult to see what's going on. It used to be a bigger problem, but thanks to optimizations made in dsda 0.25.2, I was able to come back to this map and beat it relatively quickly. The gimmicks are fun to learn imo, so long as you save frequently and make an additional save before leaving the first room :).

Here's the time I've always wanted on this map. It's far from being optimal, realistically ten seconds could be shaved off here and there. But I won't be the one to do it. This will be the last demo I submit for Dimensions. Thanks for all the GGs, was fun while it lasted.

0:24 - Jump 1
Line up with the tip of your pistol, align, and SR50.
0:39 - Jump 2
Horizontal lineup: Face west, vert mouse backward and line up some pixels on the pistol with where the darkness meets the floor texture.
Vertical lineup: Face west, mouse strafe left until the edge of your view approaches the back corner of the next platform.
Align yourself and SR50.
0:50 - Jump 3
Vertical lineup: Use the position of the brown lift to judge your horizontal position, just in case you fall during the setup. Face south. Vert mouse forward and line up some pixels on the pistol with where the darkness meets the floor texture.
Horizontal lineup: Face north. Strafe left until the switch ahead is gone from your view.
Align yourself and SR50, adjusting your angle mid-jump to reach the second platform.
You don't have time to set up the jumps after hitting the next switch, so I wing all of the jumps as fast as I can. Can't really think of a better way to do this.
1:24 - Conveyor Jump
This is free and very straightforward. Align yourself as if you're about to SR50 to the gate, SR50 backward using A, S, turn left, strafe for a short bit. Switch to forward SR50 using W, D, turn right, and strafe. Switching directions with SR50 takes some practice but trivializes this jump.
The rest is self-explanatory. Just don't fall 3 times like I did NotLikeThis

Dance on the Water is a recent release for Doom II featuring maps that have been rumored to rival Dimensions in difficulty. Be prepared to encounter damaging floors, back-breaking combat, niche gameplay, and plenty of platforming on Ultra-Violence. Oh, and did I forget to mention the music? Yeah, it's not UV exclusive thankfully. This soundtrack contains mostly covers of real songs rather than original midi compositions. Get ready to hear some bangers. It's worth a listen.

I finished Dimensions Map 03 a couple weeks ago (youtu.be/_F3RYf7hPmw). The final video isn’t up yet because life happened and I got sick. Can’t record commentary when I’m sick :) so it’s been on hold for a bit. Just a heads up that it’ll be coming soon.
This map is too hard for me to UV-Max, so to improve my game, I want to seek some consistency with all of its fights, beginning with the first two. The first fight went through some major changes throughout the development of Poogers. In the final release, it is presented as a plus-shaped arena with sides that open up simultaneously when shot. I never got a chance to play the beta releases before this fight was changed, but from what I can see, it looks completely different. The second fight also went through a few minor changes in regards to balancing during development.
Out of 32 attempts I think three or four got past the start. Success in the first fight depends on a little bit of luck and your ability to efficiently path monsters. I spent a couple hours searching for a strategy, until Kinetic explained his to me. With time I'm sure I can achieve some more consistency there. As far as luck goes, it's game over if too many revenants approach you in the very beginning. The cybers rule what you can do at any moment, so beware of them. Sometimes I can't make it around them because they tend to pick the worst possible places to stand.
Funnily enough, I forgot to go to the first secret fight when I first played this map. And when I first tried it, the fight itself didn't seem that tough. Now I'm not so sure of my strategy for it. In this attempt you can see I just barely squeezed past the hell knights. Most of the time they don't let me through, but I can't say why. Something to do with monster pathing and timing the run past them. I'll have to do more testing and investigation with my strategy to perfect it. Aside from that one bit of RNG, it isn't too difficult to survive the fight itself before I bail out. There's a ton of things to keep track of in your head during the fight. Sometimes you have no choice but to eat shit when there's projectiles flying in every which direction and an aggressive vile taking every chance he can get to target you. But I find it to be fun.
I wouldn't expect another video of this map until I decide to do a full playthrough of it with saves, showcasing all of the fights and their best strategies. Next stop is the BFG room, something I really need to work on before I can move on.
On Ultraviolence,
With a pistol start,
Max (100% kills and secrets),
And with the occasional savegame.
About Dark Universe:
"Dark Universe is a horror/survival style Doom WAD made for GZDoom. The primary means of survival is exploration. All the items, weapons, and health that you need will be found in secret rooms and out-of-the-way areas. Some of these areas will require keys to access. Keys are not needed to complete any of the maps, but you will run low on many needed resources if you exit maps without at least some exploration... you have been warned."
I sure do love to start playthroughs and never finish them... but this is 100% worth finishing. Dark Universe won a Cacoward in 2018, but didn't receive much attention, sadly. So if you can tolerate GZDoom and like what you see please give this mapset a shot. The amount of work put into detailing, texturing, scripting, layouts, monster placement - it just continues to blow my mind. It all adds up to create an immersive experience that keeps you playing. I think the only fault of this wad is its length. Wish there was more to play.
