Robin Ince loves books. Maybe a little too much. In this series we travel with Robin across the UK as he visits 100s of independent bookshops and libraries to browse and give talks about his love of books.
In this first episode Robin does three shows in a day, in two libraries and an Oxfam, visits a special secondhand bookshop and gets let lose in 'the cage', the secret underground collection at the Exeter Library.
Note: Robin's lapel mic died during his talk at the main Exeter Library (which we didn't know till after the talk) so the audio for that section has some room reverb due to us having to resort to the back up mic. Apologies, everything else is fine!

Each guest will invite the people who formed the ideas that have shaped their work, inspiration, creativity and life. Some may be heroes and, some may be villains, a few may be in-between. They may be alive. They may be dead. They might even be fictional.
Covering a wide range of topics and perspectives from science and culture. ‘They’ve Made Us’ promises to be an insightful and entertaining exploration of some of our most exciting and influential people, both known and unknown. A show that is a celebration of ideas and passionate people.

Music by The F-Gs Opening Animation by William Marler Book Graphic by Atlantic BooksThe Stonehenge of Particle Physics - Robin Ince Visits ATLAS & CERNThe Cosmic Shambles Network2023-05-29 | Despite over a decade as one of the UK's leading popularisers of science, remarkably, Robin Ince had never visited CERN. So in early 2023 the Shambles team organised for Robin to head out to Geneva to give a talk about his love of science in the very lecture theatre where the discovery of the Higgs Boson was announced.
While there he was given a guided tour of the antimatter factory with Professor Niels Madsen, the CERN Control Centre with Dr Simon Albright and then taken 100m below the surface to see the iconic ATLAS experiment with Dr Clara Nellist and Professor Jon Butterworth.
This film takes in some of the highlights of the tour looking at the work currently being done at CERN and the history of the ATLAS experiment, as well as sections of Robin's talk.
Small correction: At one point we refer to a femtobarn as 10^-12 barns when, of course, a femtobarn is actually 10^-15 barns.

We're back. A little earlier than normal. It's an almost Christmas Compendium for 2022.
The Cosmic Shambles Network and Phil McIntyre Live Limited are delighted to announce that Brian Cox and Robin's Ince's Christmas Compendium of Reason returns for 2022, once again we're at the iconic Royal Albert Hall, on November 23rd.
The rescheduling of Brian and Robin's Horizons world tour shows means that during our traditional start of December Compendium time, they're going to be on the other side of the planet. But that doesn't mean we're just going to not have a Compendium!
So for 2022, it's the Almost Christmas Compendium! Start your holiday season early on November 23rd, back at our new home at the world famous Royal Albert Hall. Expect another exhilarating collision of science, music, comedy, wonder and chaos! Once again Robin and Brian will present a secret line up of incredible performers where you never know what scientific or musical treat will be next on stage. All proceeds will go to great charities like Médecins Sans Frontières UK, the Sophie Lancaster Foundation and Two Wheels for Life, amongst others.
As ever, the lineup will be a tightly guarded secret but previous shows have featured music icons like The Cure, Boy George and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, comedians such as Stewart Lee, Dara Ó Briain, Sara Pascoe and Jo Brand plus scientists such Jim Al-Khalili, Alice Roberts, Carolyn Porco, Helen Czerski and legendary astronaut Chris Hadfield.
What have we got in store for 2022’s comedy, science and music explosive mix?

And then to find out more about Europe's only native monkeys, we spoke with Dr Marine Joly, Senior Lecture at the Centre for Comparative & Evolutionary Psychology at the University of Portsmouth. Marine is a leading expert in macaques and the evolution of primate cognition.
Teaming up with the Cosmic Shambles Network, Simon will be bringing us a unique video travelogue throughout 2022. We have no idea what he might discover. Neither does he.
