When Nod Krai was announced, many dismissed it as “Genshin’s filler arc”. Were they right?

We had been due to reach Snezhnaya, the final region in the game, the finale of the story. To face the Fatui and their Harbingers, to confront the Tsaritsa and her stolen gnoses, perhaps even to see Celestia awaken. People had anticipated this for half a decade.
Instead, Hoyo announced a detour.
They promised Nod Krai would bridge the gap between the story and the lore, something vital for the final act to work for the majority of players.
But for a lot of people, any lingering trust was burned away a long time ago. And there is an obvious motive here: Genshin still prints money. Why would Hoyo want it to end? It was not unreasonable to suspect they might drag this out as long as possible. Perhaps Nod Krai was going to be just a waste of time.
The story isn’t finished, but with Act Six done it’s the perfect time to compare. The longest Archon Quests from past nations had five acts at most, so by now we’re looking at a similar amount of story.
