Knockin On Heavens Door 1975 - 2025 The Kwaze 2025-06-01 | I was playing some 50 year old tapes on my very first reel to reel recorder that I still own.I came across half a song that Patrick, Clive and I recorded in my bedroom at the time, directly to tape in stereo.I thought it was pretty good, so decided to finish the song albeit 50 years later.First I used software to separate the half a song to individual tracks.I then copied and pasted the acoustic and electric guitars played by Patrick and Clive, to make a full length song.Then I re-recorded the bass guitar, as the original was rubbish, so I now had a full length song backing, with some missing vocals – are you still with me?Then I added drums and multiple keyboards (Cellos, strings, pizzicato violins)Then I had to add vocals from the point where the original tape cut off.Patrick had got the lyrics wrong, so I continued in the same vein for my part.Fortunately Patrick couldn’t sing either, so it worked out nicely.The song ended up using 51 tracks in total.Then I made a video to go with it, which only used about 30 tracks.I used single photographs of us three from roughly the era when the original song was made and from 2025 for my recent vocal additions.The photos were then Photoshopped to add the cowboy hats and neckerchiefs, then animated to mime the words using AI software.Thus, they don’t look very convincing, but are mildly amusing in a low rez Pillsbury Doughboy kind of a way.As one of the pubs that Patrick owned in Kentucky, was built back in the cowboy days I think it fits nicely in the video and he would have liked that touch.
