Conversion optimization specialist Talia Wolf says you shouldn’t focus too much on tactics, like the right button colors.
Instead, be strategic with your CRO. Use your website to speak to the customer about the pains and challenges in their journey, and tell them how your offer solves their problems.
That’s how you increase conversions. That’s how you get new customers.
**Transcript**
Hi, my name is Talia Wolf.
If you're struggling to get the results you want, you may be treating conversion optimization as a tactic and not a strategy.
Conversion optimization that is focused on tactics is mostly focused on changing elements on a page. On how many tests you're running. You look at reports and you're trying to increase conversions. This means you see your homepage or a landing page or a product page isn't converting. You look at the page and you try to figure out. Why isn't this converting?
You look at best practices. You look at case studies, you follow gurus, you follow all the different guides that tell you that if you just change a call to action button, or reduce a form field, or if you add a pop-up, or change an image, you'll increase conversions. And then you run this test and little to no results. And even if you increase conversions. What are you going to do with that?
That's tactical CRO.
Strategic CRO is when you understand conversion optimization is solving people's problems; it's not about increasing conversions. It's about serving your customers with the journey they need in order to get the results that they're looking for.
Instead of just changing elements on the page, when it comes to conversion optimization, you should aim to solve your customer's problems. What are their pains? What are their hesitations? What are their challenges? What are they trying to achieve? How do they want to feel after finding a solution?
Once you understand that there's a problem on your landing page, you don't need to just look at the elements. You need to look at your messaging. You need to look at everything that you are saying to them and ask yourself if you are actually serving your customers. If you're telling them how you're going to solve a problem for them, how you are going to help them get from point A to point B. If you're not doing that, that is your conversion problem.
And once you solve it, once you help your prospects achieve their own goals, you'll be able to achieve your own and increase conversions.

But that doesn’t stop web visitors from comparing your site with competing solutions.
Conversion optimization specialist Talia Wolf says that to stand out from the competition, you can’t use the same messaging they use.
**Transcript**
Hi, my name is Talia Wolf, and I'm a conversion optimization specialist.
If you're struggling to get the conversions that you need, you may have a messaging problem. When prospects come to your website, they're actively comparing you to many different solutions. Whether you want to admit it or not. They have opened four or five different tabs, and they are comparing you to someone else.
Now, if you are using the same messaging as everyone else—the number one solution for X, or the AI platform for Y, or the all-in-one solution for something else—then you probably sound like everyone else. And you're putting too much work on your prospects to try and find the difference between you and them.
Do they care about your features? Of course! Do they care about your pricing? Yes. But at the end of the day, you and your competitors probably have more or less the same platform.
What you need to do to increase conversions is tell your prospects exactly how you solve a specific problem for them. You need to tap into their pains and challenges. You need to tap into their desired outcomes. How do they want to feel after finding a solution, and what are they trying to achieve?
If your messaging is all about you, your product, your features, and your technology, you're making a mistake, and you need to optimize that.

Does your B2B website address those specific concerns?
Conversion optimization specialist Talia Wolf says that if you want to increase conversions, don’t start by testing new button colors. Instead, update your messaging.
**Transcript**
Hi, I'm Talia Wolf, and I'm a conversion optimization specialist.
If you are struggling to get the conversions you need from your landing pages, you may be making a mistake with the content you're providing. Before you change random buttons and elements on the page, look at what people are using to land on your page: their search terms.
Search isn't clinical. It isn't technical. Your prospects are actually typing in their pains, their challenges, and their concerns into Google to land on your landing page. They're saying what they care about, what they don't care about, what's annoying them, what they're trying to get rid of.
Once you actually look at Google Search Console and see the terms that people are using, you can scan your landing pages and see if you are answering those questions. Are you even talking about things they care about?
This is a quick tip that can really easily increase your conversions.

Your domain authority and existing URLs. Take advantage of your authority and trust with this SEO tip from Orbit Media’s CMO and co-founder, Andy Crestodina.
**Transcript**
Hi, this is Andy from Orbit Media.
I wanna share with you a tip that took me a very long time to learn: rather than writing something new, consider going back and updating older posts instead. That URL may already have page authority—may already have links to it.
This is a big SEO advantage to update older content. In the end, you realize you don't really need a thousand articles. You need a hundred really great articles. And by updating old URLs, you kind of have an advantage because these things are already very focused on the topic, the internal linkings in place, and Google believes that to be a credible page.
So with that in mind, when making new URLs, make sure that they're easily repurposed for later. Which means don't put numbers in your URLs. That article, you've got about 12 tips for container gardening? Don't put the 12 in the URL. Just put tips-container-gardening as the URL.
That way, when you go back to repurpose it later—two years from now when you rewrite it and it's like 15 tips, it'll be much easier to repurpose that URL. URLs should have no numbers and should have no formats. So that's a really insightful and important thing.
The world is not waiting for another medium quality post. Go back and enhance and improve and add depth and detail in visuals and collaborative quotes to an existing URL. Treat it as if it was new. Publish it like it was new. Send an email for it. Put it in heavy social rotation. Link to it from your homepage.
Because in the end it's really all about quality. And you'll get better performance faster by taking a thing that already exists and making it even better than just writing an endless stream of new stuff.

Hi, this is Andy from Orbit Media. I want to share with you a really effective content promotion trick that I learned years ago and works extremely well.
If you're going to publish something that answers a question or something for which there are sort of multiple points of view, early in your process, drop a question into a social stream.
Just ask a related question on LinkedIn or whatever your social network of choice is, and then just see the interactions. Just see the responses. Just engage in a little conversation about it.
Then save the link to that conversation at the top of the draft and then go write the article. While you're writing it, you'll end up thinking of some of the input you got, and maybe reaching out to some of those commenters, and then maybe including them as some collaborators.
So, your article automatically got more interesting. It's got multiple points of view now. But also, when that thing goes live, you have people to mention and share it with and to notify that you've got a new piece.
The goal is to make sure that when something goes live, that there's a greater than zero number of people waiting to see it live. There are people who are involved in it. It was part of a conversation you already had.
Don't wait until your piece is live to begin the conversation. Prime the social pump by having a little conversation on social first. You're going to have a way easier time promoting it once that piece actually launches.

Whether you’re team less is more or more is more, you can’t deny that the pressure to feed the content beast is fiercer than ever.
SEO is exponentially more complicated. Social media algorithms change every day. And getting mentioned in AI results? Yep. (Because we all wanted another puzzle in the “getting our content seen” game.)
And we haven’t even talked about B2B buyers. They’re distracted. They’re busy. They don’t have time for you. And they’re doing 80% of their research before they contact you—often before they ever even fill out a lead form. They want to know all about you and understand the problems they need to solve (and how) before picking up the proverbial phone.
The solution? It’s not just more content. It’s better content, created faster and more efficiently. It’s focusing on your expertise, authority, and influence. It’s using the tools you have—and adding new AI-powered technology—to experiment with new ideas and new formats that seemed inaccessible in the past. It’s understanding that how people discover you has changed—will undoubtedly continue to change—and that your content distribution playbook from last year may not work today. And it’s acknowledging that you no longer have tight control, but you can still put your content front and center… if it’s worth reading, watching, or listening to.
Quick and easy, right? (Yeah, we know; we’re exhausted just thinking about it.)
So, we’re dedicating this spring to helping you rein in the content creation beast with our Content Marketer’s Crash Course.
Over ten consecutive weeks from February through April, we’re covering the down-and-dirty how-tos for new, effective ways to ideate, create, repurpose, and distribute B2B content without breaking your back (or bank). We’re talking about building authority and trust through subject matter experts and thought leaders (they’re different!), and how to put them to work. Plus, we’ll cover how today’s “zero-click” world impacts the content you need to create and how you choose to distribute it.
And with sessions by Andy Crestodina, Melanie Deziel, and seven of our other proven, audience-favorite presenters, you won’t just be hearing from any voices… you’ll be learning from the best in B2B content marketing today.

Yet too often in B2B, we play it safe—and our marketing gets lost in a sea of sameness, warns David Fortino, Senior VP of Audience and Product at NetLine.
David shares how his company’s creative marketing ideas were in danger after a corporate buy-out, and how he was able to create a stronger brand because of it.
And don’t forget to bring humanity into your own marketing—a common theme at B2B Forum 2024. Next November, join your fellow B2B marketers at the conference once called, “the place to be if you want a million things to test.” Tickets are available now and prices are as low as they’ll ever be.

MarketingProfs B2B Forum is the best marketing conference for B2B marketers to learn how to drive growth, elevate brand reputation, prove ROI, and stay ahead of the ever-changing marketing curve.
For over 15 years, marketers have joined us to develop careers, expand networks, dream up new ideas, and celebrate the magic of marketing. Are you ready to experience the magic?
The energy was electric. We shared ideas, laughs, maybe a few too many karaoke songs—and most importantly, we grew as marketers, as professionals, and as a community. 🚀
A huge shoutout to every one of you who showed up, shared your stories, took the stage, scribbled on the Wall of Marketing Champions, ran after staying up way too late, and embraced every moment. YOU are what makes #MPB2B more than just a conference—you're what makes it a homecoming. ❤️
Already dreaming about 2025? We are too! Stay tuned… we've got something brewing. 😉

Geraldine is a James Beard Award-winning writer best known for her books and blog, "The Everywhereist," which chronicles her travels and experiences around the world with her husband, Rand Fishkin, marketer and co-founder of Moz. During this special keynote session, she'll chat with Ann about the things that make writing so rewarding and essential: the love, the fun, and the sense of purpose it brings to our lives.
They'll discuss the joys and challenges of the creative process, the importance of storytelling, and the power of the written word to connect, inspire, and transform—regardless of topic or industry. (That means marketing writing, too.)
Plus, you'll hear Geraldine's thoughts on the future of writing and reading in a constantly evolving world.
Join us to explore what it means to be human in today's world, how writing can help us make sense of it all, and how we as writers can build meaningful connections with our audiences through social media and other platforms.
Together let's mark the end of Marketing Writing Bootcamp with a session celebrating the joy and power of the written word. You might also win a copy of Geraldine's fantastic and hilarious new memoir If You Can't Take the Heat. But you have to be present to win!
Don't miss this closing keynote for inspiration on your own writing journey.

✅ How AI can be a powerful ally in producing high-quality writing efficiently
