*Synopsis | A Mother's Burden (2011)*
Decades after the Port Arthur massacre, that photo of Martin Bryant still sends a shiver down the spine. Nowadays, we like to think that his eyes are a little crazy, and that expression is ever so slightly off-kilter. But that's all in hindsight. The fact is, apart from being a bit troubled as a kid and intellectually limited, really, Martin Bryant could be anyone's son. But he just happens to be Carleen Bryant's son, and the burden of that has been devastating for her. Carleen Bryant is tormented by the same questions that trouble us all. What made a seemingly ordinary, if dimwitted, young man, go out and kill 35 people? And have we learned anything from that dreadful day?

Who is the real Daniel Duggan? It’s a simple question, but the answer is highly contested and has enormous consequences. For his family and a large group of supporters, he’s a hero. A former US Marine fighter pilot turned proud Australian citizen; a loving husband and devoted dad. For others though, namely the United States government, he’s a traitor, accused of supplying China with top-secret military information. For the past 19 months, Duggan has been sitting in Australian prisons fighting attempts to send him back to the United States. As Dimity Clancey reports, a decision about his extradition is expected within weeks, but if the Americans get a hold of him and can prove the allegations, he faces up to 65 more years locked up. It’s a thought his wife Saffrine and six children are struggling to comprehend.

Synopsis
Dannielle Finlay-Jones should be alive today. On weekdays, she should be teaching students at the school where she worked. And on weekends, she should be playing sport and hanging out with her friends. Instead, she’s another murdered victim of domestic violence. Her family, though, don’t want their precious Danni to be a statistic. They want the system that failed her to be fixed. As Amelia Adams reports, Danni had been looking for love, and met Ashley Gaddie, a 33-year-old tradie with a long history of violence against women, on a dating app. But Danni didn’t know about his past, or that he was out on bail at the time, and with no warning about his real character, she stood no chance.

*Synopsis | Giant Leap: Update (2024)*
It’s important to be reminded that sometimes what we think is impossible isn’t. Fourteen years ago, David Mzee suffered terrible spinal injuries after an accident on a trampoline. He was told he’d be a wheelchair-dependent paraplegic for the rest of his life. That was news David didn’t want to hear, so he didn’t listen. All he wanted was to walk again. And as he shows Adam Hegarty, with much perseverance and great help from a lot of very smart people, he now does.

*Synopsis | Elon Musk's Crash Course (2024)*
For all of his futuristic vision and entrepreneurial drive, billionaire Elon Musk’s bold mission to build a fully autonomous car is stalling. His company Tesla is facing increasingly serious questions about the safety of its self-driving technology. A major investigation by a US regulator has linked Tesla’s autopilot feature to hundreds of crashes, many of them fatal. It says drivers have been lulled into a false sense of security about the cars that isn’t matched by reality. And it gets worse - there are also accusations that Musk and Tesla talked up the self-driving capabilities of the vehicles so much that they may have committed fraud by misleading investors and consumers.

Ikaria is a magical place where people live longer than anyone else on Earth. They're also happier and healthier; they have lower rates of cancer and heart disease and no dementia. *Synopsis | The President (2022)*
When Russian dictator Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, he arrogantly expected to conquer it easily. He was wrong. Despite being badly outnumbered and completely outgunned, Ukrainian soldiers have shown extraordinary fight. And leading the resistance has been their president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. His transformation from former actor and comedian to hero of the free world is inspirational. As one observer put it, he's Charlie Chaplin morphed into Winston Churchill.

Qantas has long been revered as the safest airline in the world. But it's a reputation that has taken a battering. Literally. In 2010, an engine on one of its massive A380s exploded in mid-air. A lot of things went wrong that day. In fact, the flight crew had to deal with more than 60 separate system failures. But a lot of things also went right, thanks largely to the man at the controls. Only his cool head and keen instincts got the plane down safely. It truly is an amazing story.

*Synopsis | Much Ado About Nothing (2016)*
Jerry Seinfeld is without doubt the world's most famous comedian. He's made people laugh for almost 40 years and managed to turn a TV show about nothing into the most successful sitcom in entertainment history. The everyday antics of Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer became the stuff of comedy legend around the world. Who could forget the 'Puffy Shirt', the 'Soup Nazi' or 'The Contest'? In an industry where so few succeed, Seinfeld has managed to make a career and some pretty serious money. But as he tells Liz Hayes, it's not as easy as it looks, and is in fact an exacting science which demands mountains of research and development. And that probably explains why Jerry Seinfeld is so good at it.

*Synopsis | Hillsong Hell: Update (2024)*
The Hillsong Megachurch wants us to believe it’s a place of love and caring, but that’s not what Anna Crenshaw thinks. When she was 18, she was indecently assaulted by a married Hillsong staff member. He pleaded guilty in 2020 and received a two-year good behaviour bond, but the punishment did little to ease Anna’s trauma. She wanted Hillsong to take some responsibility for its employee, so she took civil action against the church. Hillsong’s response has been not very Christian.

As she tells Tara Brown, she has volunteered herself, and her unforgettable and beautiful mind, to help those who can’t remember. And medical researchers couldn’t be happier, because they believe understanding Emily’s super brain will provide clues to better treat conditions like dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

*Synopsis | No Warning, No Chance (2024)*

*Synopsis | Havana Syndrome (2024)*
Some people might applaud the ingenuity; most though would condemn the barbarity. A secret new weapon has apparently been developed and is being used to target hundreds of high-ranking United States government workers. Those affected include diplomats, military officials, and spies, who believe they’ve been struck down in mysterious circumstances by strange energy waves. After being attacked, the victims report a range of debilitating neurological ailments that have seriously impaired their lives. In this special report for 60 MINUTES, Dimity Clancey investigates the so-called “Havana Syndrome”. The condition got its name because it was first detected in Cuba, but there are no prizes for guessing it’s another country accused of engineering it.

*Synopsis | The Man Who Shot Bin Laden (2017)*
If anyone tried to imagine what a highly skilled, ruthless assassin might look like, Robert O'Neill's image would not spring to mind. But beyond his friendly face and benign demeanour, O'Neill is a man who has spent much of his adult life learning to kill. In May 2011, every bit of the U.S. Navy Seal's training was tested when he lined up the western world's greatest single enemy, Osama bin Laden, in his gunsights. O'Neill didn't flinch - he pulled the trigger. As Liam Bartlett discovered, hearing his story is chilling enough, but even more worrying are the latest expert warnings that bin Laden's death, far from killing off al-Qaeda, has spurred the terrorists on to greater evil.

*Synopsis | Torn Apart (2011)*
Occasionally, you hear a story that is so gut-wrenchingly tragic that you wonder where people find the strength to get out of bed each day. That's how Michael Usher felt when he met Stacey Keep and her husband, Matthew. They lost their 23-month-old daughter, Jessica, during the Queensland floods. The raging water literally ripped the little girl out of Stacey's arms. There's nothing you can say or do to make things better. So we just listened. And we cried bucket-loads. And we tried to focus on the little miracles of that dreadful day.

*Synopsis | Beaconsfield: The Whole Story (2016)*
There are few stories of survival more incredible than that of Todd Russell and Brant Webb. When disaster struck at the Beaconsfield mine in Tasmania ten years ago this month, the pair dug deep to defy the odds. A massive rock fall had claimed the life of workmate Larry Knight, and Todd and Brant knew their number could be up at any moment. For two nerve-wracking weeks, they lay entombed deep underground as the nation held its collective breath. And when it finally came, their rescue was an extraordinary moment of elation. But it didn't end there.

*Synopsis | Natural Born Killers (2010)*
They seem like the friendliest and most sociable of creatures. At least, that's the impression you get when you watch killer whales swimming in wildlife documentaries or performing at marine parks. But don't be fooled, these are wild animals; predators at the very top of the food chain. They are, as their name implies, killers. None more so than Tilikum, an orca at Florida's Sea World. He's killed three times. Two of his victims were his trainers and his tragic story makes you wonder what we're doing confining these majestic and clearly very dangerous creatures in concrete tanks.

*Synopsis | The Weinstein Trial (2020)*
Once upon a time in Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein was an icon. But no more. His failing was a belief that he was so potent he could have anything or anyone he wanted, and damn the consequences. Weinstein lured young women to be his sexual playthings knowing, such was his influence, they'd be too frightened to call him out. The plan worked for decades until finally the women said enough, and the movie mogul was publicly exposed. On 60 MINUTES, Tom Steinfort travels to New York to report on Weinstein's trial and the claims and counter-claims making daily headlines around the world. His story includes interviews with alleged victims, as well as the woman Weinstein hired to demolish the #MeToo movement.

*Synopsis | Army of Spies (2018)*
Blinded by power, and with an ego completely at odds with reality, the man who has produced, and starred in, the worst scandal to ever shame Hollywood is now its greatest pariah. And that's thanks to the scores of brave women, many of them high-profile actresses, who have exposed Weinstein's sexual misconduct. But in a major 60 MINUTES investigation, Liam Bartlett reveals an added level of Weinstein wickedness. To cover up his many crimes, the one-time Hollywood heavyweight had at his disposal a so-called "army of spies". These "agents" collected sensitive and embarrassing information about his victims, which was then used to discredit or shut them up. Among Weinstein's trusted allies was Australian Dylan Howard, who a few days ago went to court to try to stop his part in Bartlett's story being broadcast. Unfortunately for Howard, he failed.

*Synopsis | Wonky Wonka (2024)*
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Scottish entrepreneur Billy Coull thought he’d make money, and just as importantly make a whole lot of children happy, by staging a Willy Wonka spectacular in Glasgow. His idea was to take an empty warehouse and fill it with the wonder of Roald Dahl’s imagination. Coull promised it’d be like nothing the kids had ever seen before. And he was right. But for all the wrong reasons. The show was a disaster of monumental proportions. Turns out, among Coull’s many failings, his greatest was to rely on artificial intelligence to plan and then sell the extravaganza. As Adam Hegarty discovered though, AI simply wasn’t smart enough to understand the magic of Willy Wonka. This attempt at fun not only turned to farce, it also became the subject of worldwide ridicule.

*Synopsis | Gallipoli (2002)*
This time last week, Ray Martin was standing on the beach at Anzac Cove. The clearest sea, the cliffs, the gullies and the ridges - the beach at Anzac Cove is quite overwhelming. 8,709 Aussie soldiers were killed at Gallipoli, but now ten times that number of Aussie tourists make their pilgrimage each year. Most of them are about the same age as the soldiers who died there. As Ray Martin reports, it's a phenomenon, almost a rite of passage - young Australians in search of our history, and perhaps in search of ourselves.

*Synopsis | Forgotten Heroes (2007)*
This is one Anzac Day story you won't have seen before. A heroic tale from a war that killed four million and a battle that saved the day for the Allies. The war was Korea and the battle, Kapyong - both these days just footnotes to history. And, sadly, we've also overlooked four brave young men who held out against impossible odds in that crucial moment of the war. Diggers who fought back wave after wave of enemy attacks, and survived the most ferocious hand-to-hand combat imaginable. Yet, few Australians have ever heard of them.

*Synopsis | The Menace of the Taipans (2024)*
They look mightily impressive, they’re relatively young and they’ve cost more than $3.5 billion dollars to buy and operate. According to the top brass at the Defence Department though, Australia’s 46 MRH-90 Taipan helicopters are useless junk. Others say that they’re dangerous, as the country tragically saw last July when one crashed near Hamilton Island killing four Australian airmen from the 6th Aviation Regiment. It seems no surprise then that the helicopters have been taken out of service, and as the story goes, are about to be dumped in a great big hole at a secret Defence location. But what if it turns out that these machines aren’t as bad as we’re being told? In a special report for 60 MINUTES, Andrew Probyn, the National Affairs Editor for 9News, investigates the very real possibility that there’s another reason for the terrible accident, and it’s one that has nothing to do with the reliability, or otherwise, of the MRH-90.

*Synopsis | Open Hearts (2010)*
The equation should be so simple. On one side, Ethiopian orphans craving love and security; on the other, childless Australian couples with empty homes and open hearts. Bring them together and everyone's happy. Well, that's how it should be, anyway. Sadly, red tape and mismanagement here in Australia and over in Africa have scuttled the dreams of hundreds of would-be families. It's heartbreaking for the kids, for the prospective parents and for Peter Overton because he's been privileged enough to witness first-hand just how wonderful these adoptions can be.

*Synopsis | Stormy (2018)*
When Americans voted Donald Trump their president, it wasn't difficult to predict that things were going to get bumpy. It turns out they also got stormy - Stormy Daniels that is. She's the stripper and porn star whose claim about having a one-night stand with Mr. Trump back in 2006 has the potential to undermine the authority - and credibility - of the most powerful man in the world. He says it's not true and accuses Stormy of extortion, but as he discovered, she is a woman not to be messed with, or silenced. On 60 MINUTES, Stormy Daniels reveals how 90 seconds of what she describes as "the least impressive" sex she has ever had has led to one of the most titillating political scandals in United States history.
