Some reels from our recent road trip through Southern Utah and Arizona. Needles Overlook is an awesome spot above Lockhart Basin about 30 miles south of Moab and 22 miles west of US 191. It is managed by BLM outside of Canyonlands National Park. The entire way there is paved. We didn't see a single other car that morning and had the whole place to ourselves. It reminded me of Moonscape Overlook near Hanksville but with more vibrant colors. It’s truly a hidden gem.
The second highlight is the Moki Dugway, a 3-mile stretch of dirt road along UT261 that's winding through sheer cliffs above Valley of the Gods. The road was bumpy in spots but it is graded and our van handled it without any issue.
The third stop is Goosenecks State Park, which is technically owned by BLM but managed by Utah state park, and drone flying is allowed in winter months. Again we saw few people there (much less crowded than Horseshoe Bend later on).
Finally we drove further south to tour Monument Valley tribal park. The view from the visitor center terrace is probably the best, but the 17-mile dirt road inside the park is worth driving if your vehicle can handle it.
