Nagged to Ed is only the second episode of the show, but it introduces three of the show's biggest problems. Lee, Marie, and May. The Kanker sisters. Or possibly half-sisters, given they've had multiple dads. They're the closest the show comes to antagonists, and, boy, did they antagonize. This episode shows the Eds first meeting them, and, at first, they're quite accommodating, giving them food and letting them watch TV. But they abruptly turn aggressive and demand they do housework, and for the rest of the runtime, they alternate between acting like neglected spouses, or the abusive partner in the relationship. Needless to say, the Eds, and by proxy the audience, are horribly confused by all of this, and they finally flee. And sadly, this is one of the better appearances of the Kankers. Their role in the show was as an near-unstoppable destructive force of nature who targeted the Eds in particular, forcing them into uncomfortable romantic situations, usually nonconsensual kissing, and just being aggressive bullies to the cul-de-sac in general. And most times they showed up, the episode would be worse off for it. The first season especially suffered, where many episodes would end with them appearing out of nowhere and ruining things for the Eds, like a crutch the writers used when they couldn't think of an ending. Like most elements, they would gradually be fleshed out, even gaining unique personalities, and be better utilized to benefit the series humor. But they'd remain the most painful part of the show. I know they're based on bullies show creator Danny Antonucci knew growing up, but this is that bit of childhood trauma he should have left in therapy.
