LOVEJOY 2024 VJ CUT YOVOZOL 2025-06-07 | In 2024 I did two short international tours with indie rock band @Lovejoyonline (the "Right Way Up" and "Resources For Teaching" tours.) In total we did 14 shows across Japan, Thailand, Australia, UK, and USA. I was at front-of-house for every show, mixing the visuals live using @ResolumeVJSoftware, a MIDI controller, a couple hardware video devices, and a few cameras which were fed into my custom setup. I also designed many new assets, greatly improving the Lovejoy visuals I toured with in September & December of 2023. Since the visuals were mixed manually and used live camera feeds, each show's visuals were slightly different from the last. an important thought about my recent visuals YOVOZOL 2025-05-30 | in a nutshell: symbolism over aestheticism.I believe we live in times where symbolism is necessary to consider when making anything you want to call "art." For me personally, purely aesthetic works come off as hedonistic or evasive. This realization is the most significant shift that has manifested itself in my craft over the last year.Don't get me wrong, having good aesthetics is important, but I believe only to the degree in which it helps support an artwork's message. Framerate, BPM, and Duration for VJ assets YOVOZOL 2025-05-09 | This is a life hack for those of you who make your own video assets and loops for VJing / live visuals. I've been working a lot in Blender (and After Effects) to make my own visuals and months ago I asked myself if my renders could have a standard framerate, tempo, and duration that would make it easy to play at different speeds, without having the frames stutter from slowing down or running too short when speeding up. Using some simple math, we can arrive at reliable numbers and easily calculate where to place keyframes for animations. This is all mostly assuming you're busking for EDM and it's in 4/4 time signature.Once you fully wrap your head around what I've explained, you will know how many musical measures and beats your renders are, regardless of what frame rate and tempo you choose. This knowledge is especially useful when using BPM sync on your clips in Resolume Avenue or Arena @ResolumeVJSoftware For my advanced VJ nerds: here are some useful equations to synchronize your oscillators in Blender & After Effects to a BPM:Blender2*pi*1/fps*bpm/60Paste this into the Phase Multiplier setting of the "Built-in Function" F-Curve Modifier in Blender's Graph Editor view. By default, Phase Multiplier is set to "1.000". HIDDEN® PREHISTORIC EDIT YOVOZOL 2025-04-01 | Well... last year I was asked to edit another video for a HIDDEN PPF x ASICS sneaker drop immersive experience, this time it was in Los Angeles on November 15, 2024. The theme was "hidden prehistoric technologies" as the shoes were marketed as an archeological find in an excavation site. Playing into this theme, I was given hours and hours of old dinosaur documentary footage to cut down to around 15 minutes. This was played on loop on two monitors in the hallway leading to the main event (a room full of actors and and a whole dig site set piece). GLITCH VLOG 6: My Life in 2024 (Summer, Fall, & Winter) YOVOZOL 2025-03-04 | The last half of 2024 was the most eventful period of my life so far. If we include the first part of January 2025, I was in 12 countries, most of which I did VJ performances in. In the span of 7 months I was in Poland (x2), Japan, Thailand, Australia, Ukraine, Germany, UK (x3), USA (both coasts), Finland, Estonia, Belgium, and The Netherlands (where I live!).
