On this patch, I had cv controlling the fm amounts on the Sv1-b and there was plenty of frequencies being modulated and smeared across the ether through the Ubique. The TipTop Forbidden Planet and Eowave Quad filter were squelching it up too. I later realized that I forgot to sync the bassline clock to the clock on the drums, so they are both kind of free running. *facepalm* 😅✨The groove still pretty much synced up through the fx and cv modulations which were clocked to the drums. Sweet! 😁✨ It was hard to stop jamming, it was so fun and interesting to hear as this jam evolved. I especially enjoyed playing with the Ubique. This jam is an experimental adventure, so buckle up! Basically one big noisy drum practice. Lots of fun happy accidents and some rough parts too. I used the recently-revived chrome Metal Fetishist and ran it through the Moog Ringmod pedal (with expression pedal that I tended to ride too hard throughout for lots of shrieking vibes), the Benidub Digital Echo, Oto BAM and the TimeTosser which is being clocked by the MF and 2hp Div which added some fun, audio rate madness at times. 🤘🔥✨ My first jam with the Tosser (probably overdid it too!). Well, I did that and immediately the MF jumped back to life!!!!! 🤘😁❤️✨ I was so stoked. I had to do a jam as soon as possible as proof that it is living again! ⚡️✨ Thanks Xavi! This jam gets pretty experimental as I am still figuring out the settings on the new version of the MF and I took this jam in some unexpected directions. Really digging the odd timings and the different effects. Cool stuff!! I think I had it on the chorus effect for this jam. And I definitely jumped around on the odd timings. It would be cool if somehow the next version could blend the odd and even timings… Just sayin’! 😁✨Also, I had thought my Benidub Digital Echo had stopped working but I tried it tonight and it works fine. I thought the Motor Synth would be a fitting base for some industrial tones and programming some chords through the Maschine+ was easy. I then soloed and tweaked some knobs on top of the chords I pre-recorded for the sequence. Gritty, somber and poetic undulations emerged from the noise. 💫✨✨ I had some Bastl Kastles doing some eclectic rhythms with heavy reverb too. I also had the Soma Cosmas (off frame) processing some stuff along with the Days of Yore The Tower reverb on the main signal. That added a lot of big atmosphere to this jam. It is so heavy and grungy and awesome. I already love it. This is my first jam with it too. And also my last jam with the chrome Metal Fetishist... I'm super bummed, but right after I did this jam, I changed the setup a little, and when I turned the power back on, I must have overloaded the circuit somehow and I think the chrome MF is fried... 😢 It is at least not working currently.. Ironically, I had recently bought another black MF to link the 2 up for a dual MF thing, but now the black one is my only MF. A natural match, right?! Well, both times, random storms cropped up, and I got rain delayed. 💧☔️🌧️💧☔️🌧️💧This year has been crazy. Weather. Political. Social. All of it. Crazy. I couldn’t believe it. So tonight, I set up my stuff, prepping for a fun, afterwork jam for the @HardwareJams weekend challenge of “All good things must come to an end”, a jam focused on the ending of the jam. Well, I was hoping I wasn’t going to accidentally end my life in a freak rain storm Latvian synth electrocution fiasco. So, I just laid out some plastic sheeting, put up an umbrella and waited until the rain stopped and then busted out the jam as quick as I could. Not too long after I wrapped up and packed up my gear, another rain stormed rolled through. I recorded both rainstorms with the sound of the drops on the umbrella above. I layered them over the live jam in the intro and outro, so you can hear what really happened this evening! I tell you, it has been the trickiest year to do outdoor jams in Colorado. It has rained nearly every time I have done an outdoor jam this year. And I really love performing outdoors in the Beermuda Triangle! I was bummed tonight because I try to time the outdoor jams to coincide with the sunset, but I missed it because it was raining then. So, now you just get the night-time vibes on this one. 🌙✨Enjoy the funky, experimental grooves and epic ending! But I didn’t even turn anything on until I was filming!! No pre-tuning-up or anything. This is a raw jam from start to finish! The first couple minutes are just getting the levels and eq/feedback set (definitely had to rock the @AudezeHQ LCD-S20s for this so I could better dial in the tones and levels), but it takes off quickly after that. I love my fuzz, but I went too far and overloaded my signals too much somehow and blew out the whole thing. Sorry! I tried my best. I did like 10 versions of that jam this weekend and that was the best one… 🤦✨✨ sometimes it just doesn’t work out. 😅✨Better luck next time!To make it up to you (and myself), I did another impromptu jam on the same Lyra setup I used the other night since I was feeling good about that whole setup and vibe. I didn’t change anything, but just powered everything back up and went for it and jammed. This is what happened! I think it turned out pretty sweet and mellow. I even took the risk of shifting the carefully-tuned pitches and repitched the Lyras mid-jam. Living on the edge! lol but cool results. It starts a little quiet and then builds in volume so watch out. I thought the part around 8:09 was pretty cool. Really graceful without too much bestial wailing! maybe a little bit.. 🤟😸✨ But mostly lush harmonies to chill or doze off to. I tuned the Lyras up and then ran them through the cosmos and then slöer pedal. Sweet lush tones and some blissed out distortion and LFO/delay stuff. I wrote the melody on Maschine+ and sequenced the Steampipe with it. I did this one for the @HardwareJams Weekend Challenge of triplets in a major scale. I recorded a slow arpeggio in triplets and then layered some freeform jams on top. It’s just the Steampipe going through the Cosmos. Pretty simple and sweet. I am also rocking the new @AudezeHQ LCD-S20 headphones. Such a treat to listen with these! Super detailed and balanced sounds and huge soundstage. The closed back really helps to block out external noise and really focus on dialing in the mix. These came in super handy when I was setting up the Steampipe to get the right tone before jamming. Carnival Bachanal 2025 | Dadamachines Automat x Live Drums | Tribal Carnival Rhythms Live Jam Travis Benjamin Simpson 2025-06-29 | Well, this is super special! ✨🤘😸✨ Just got the @dadamachines Automat Toolkit (super fast, as always, from @schneidersladen_berlin ) and hooked it up to a bunch of drums, chimes and things at Tropical Paradise Studio here in beautiful sunny Colorado and programmed it all through the @NativeInstruments Maschine+, threw some mics around, added a pinch of delay and reverb and let ‘er rip! That’s me banging away live on the talking drum and beating on other stuff. ✨😸✨🥁✨🥁✨🥁🥁✨ Also, I spatially mixed this ham for the @HardwareJams Weekend Challenge of “Stereo”. I love some nice panning and stereo action. I tried to setup the panning for the mics and mix to be interesting in a stereo/spatial kind of way… I would have liked to have added some spatial background sounds/layers too, but maybe next time!✨😊✨😊😊✨OMG!! I am so stoked on how this turned out. ✨😊✨ This jam takes me back to being a kid, super pumped up to loud, banging rhythms at Mardi Gras parades and running alongside with the floats that were throwing out the fancy stuff and hearing the syncopated percussion from the bands… So freaking cool!! Under The Canoe | Metasonix T1 x DIY Metallic Resonator | Cinematic Horror Soundscape Live Jam Travis Benjamin Simpson 2025-06-15 | Tension & suspense abound in this rumbling T1 jam! I did this jam for the @HardwareJams Weekend Challenge of Friday the 13th. The T1 is the most beastly synth I’ve heard, so it seemed like the perfect fit for a scary movie soundtrack jam. I also did a really cool thing with some simple items to get the rumbly metallic tones… I have this large piece of steel or iron that I found a long time ago while walking home. It looked like it had been run over by a train, and I thought it looked cool, so I painted it on one side. It is really heavy and has a deep resonant tone when you hit it and I started wondering about using a bone-vibration speaker to play stuff on it... So, I got a little bluetooth bone-conduction speaker and attached it to the bottom of the metal plate with suction cups. Then, I have the output of the T1 going through a bluetooth transmitter to the bone-conduction speaker. I have a mic behind the metal plate which is then going through the Days Of Yore Tower spring reverb for some extra deep & ghostly vibes. I also ran another copy of the T1 output through the audio-in on the Erica Synth's Steampipe for some extra lush reverb. So, yeah! pretty experimental and a short little jam, but really interesting sounds. I’d love to do some more jams using this same setup with the resonated metal plate or other surfaces. This is raw & uncut, so you even get to experience me tuning up the synths for 6 minutes at the beginning… lol This is the last jam from this patch. I kept it going for over a week, adding cables and adjusting knobs. Now, it is done and deconstructed. Lots of glitchy bassy punchy grooves and hard feedback. Controlled by magnets with the Manifold Research Center TMINTT and Tetragrids. Really my favorite groove machine controllers. I love this setup! I wrote the midi melody on the NI Maschine+ and then that’s playing through a custom patch on the Steampipe. I was careful this time and didn’t have any ear-piercing high notes... You’re welcome! 😁🤘✨ Also pretty cool, I hooked up the Evaton Technologies Short Wave Radio module and ran the static and occasional spacey sine waves through some modules to get some washy ocean waves-ish sounds that pan around behind the Steampipe in the mix. I think this might be my best ambient piece yet. It is really relaxing! I nodded off twice when mastering it. lol Enjoy the really lush and tranquil vibes! ✨🤘😸✨
Precipitations | Koma Chromaplane x AMS Neve Reverb | Ambient Live Jam Travis Benjamin Simpson 2025-06-04 | Stoked that my Koma Chromaplane arrived today! This is my first jam with it. I can already tell this is going to be fun. ✨🤘😸✨ Really magical and shimmering tones. I bet it will sound good with the Soma Cosmos and Lyra and some other delays. I just kept it simple for this jam and ran it through an API preamp and then the AMS Neve Reverb for some extra lush ambiance. It is also set to the same tuning that it was set at when it arrived, kind of a melancholy feel to this one, but that fits with all the rainy weather we’ve had lately. Beermuda Triangle | Perkons x Motor Synth | Trashcore Hair & Noise Live Jam Travis Benjamin Simpson 2025-05-31 | Buckle up for a wild and crazy Hair & Noise jam for @HardwareJams Weekend Challenge of Three Elements! I have the Perkons picking up the drums and bass elements and then the Motor Synth doing lead. I also had the natural elements of rain and wind… I got set up for the jam and then it started raining! Nooooo! I quickly unplugged and set up an umbrella. Then, as the rain passed, I noticed there was a sweet rainbow! ✨🌈✨ super cool! The rain let up some and I got to jamming. But I couldn’t use the kaoss pad because the light rain made the touchpad think I was touching it all the time! Bummer. After the jam, I had barely finished packing up before it started raining hard again! So wild that I only had a short window of time to knock out this jam and I’m thankful I didn’t get electrocuted or short-out any gear. I didn't have much time to dial in the Motor Synth, but I think the jam still came out pretty grungy and awesome! ✨🤘😸✨And now, I think I’ll name this little outdoor performance space after this jam, and I now call it the Beermuda Triangle at Tropical Paradise Studio. ✨🤘😸🏝️🌅✨

I love using the magnets on the TMINTT and Tetragrids to find out what the next rhythm and sound will be. Sometimes it is sheer chaos and other times it is pure magic. I did this live drone jam for the @HardwareJams Weekend Challenge for Drone Day 2025. A quick little outdoor setup with the Steampipe being fed MIDI from the Perkons and then the Steampipe is being processed through the Soma Cosmos. It is super deep and rumbly and there is one overly resonated high-pitched part to watch out for around 3:09. But it is pretty chill otherwise. Enjoy the spacey drone action! ✨🤘😸❤️✨

Don’t miss the bunny fight at 14:59! I didn’t film the live jam, but I did film some tranquil Colorado scenary to accompany the music. I sequenced the midi notes in Maschine+ and then played that through the Steampipe. I played with the cutoff/resonance some (sometimes too much resonance on some high notes, so watch out!) and tweaked some knobs, but that was it, just the Steampipe and some eq/compression. I haven’t recorded any acoustic drums in a little bit, so I thought I would slap the skins for this weekend’s Weekend Challenge from @HardwareJams ! The challenge this week was to use 4 elements, something: new, old, borrowed and blue. For ‘new’, I used the new cowbell my brother got me recently and I mounted it onto the hihat stand which worked great. It has the same tone as the hihat at the beginning of lowrider and I love that song! the cowbell added some nice resonant tones to the mix. For ‘old’, I used an old drumstick (and a mallet for a softer cymbal crash). For ‘borrowed’, I borrowed my mom’s bodhran drum and hung it above the cymbals. That gave a nice tone to the mix. For ‘blue’, the shell on my drumset is sparkly blue (you can see a little bit of it on the back of the kick drum). I recorded everything mono with a ribbon mic mounted on the ceiling of the drum room, and I used an API preamp with the gain cranked to get some nice smack from the drums and ran the mono signal through the Neve reverb for some lush, stereo atmosphere. That’s it! I thought about doing some modular processing too, but decided to just keep it simple and live in the moment. It is rough at times (I should practice more!), but I hope you enjoy the grooves! 🤘😊✨

Endless Summer Vacation | Windchimes x Panharmonium x Cosmos x Steampipe | Tranquil Ambient Live Jam Travis Benjamin Simpson 2025-03-17 | Ground & center yourself with this relaxing and blissful soundscape jam! 💫✨💫✨💫 It was breezy today, so I recorded an hour or 2 of the windchimes outside (and the birds, cars, planes and other neighborhood sounds as they occurred) and filmed outside while having coffee and waking up. Then, later in the evening, I processed the recording through the Rossum Panharmonium, the Soma Cosmos and the Erica Synths Steampipe and some other spicy eurorack modules for some extra enchanting summer vibes. With all the blooming resonant tones and cascading, swirling layers, I think it came out really nice, like time and motion suspended in a breathing ocean of harmonic currents as the sun crests the horizon. ☀️✨💫✨ I filmed a lot of slowmo shots throughout the day that captured that similar feeling and summer fun! 🤘😊✨I did this jam for the @HardwareJams weekend challenge for jams with summer vibes. It’s way over the 5 minute limit, so feel free to cut it as you see fit! 🤘😊✨ Fortunately, the weather cooperated and I was able to do my first jam outside on the new table I recently painted. I found it for free in front of someone’s house while out riding bikes with my brother recently and customized it with acrylic paint, resin & glitter (which looked sick in the sunlight! 58:48).
