Live at Sheffield Hope Works - Ulterior #006 Party Alkis Tsapanidis 2024-01-20 | Fresh off the press, my live set at the incredible Ulterior party in Sheffield recorded between 2 and 3AM on Saturday the 20th of January 2024.That was a good start to the year! 😀Started off with a first sequence similar to The Splitter, and improvised from there. Managed to cover a lot of different ground, from fairly deep and minimal to all out mayhem, and it was extremely well receiced by the crowd. A few of the more industrial sounding Edge sequences had people going apeshit, which always feels amazing.Usual setup, Crave, Edge, TD-3-MO and Pro VS Mini into Syntakt, SQ-1 running the Crave. Had to take the Edge out of the system to do so, its MIDI Thru port is basically broken, filtering everything that isn’t addressed to it out.It’s nice for intros, I think I may need to do something like that for my next live set! Live at Crux Soundsystem and Nest Collective Free Party Autumn 2023 Alkis Tsapanidis 2023-11-13 | My live set at a local free party by Crux Soundsystem and Nest Collective. The combined rig involved four massive hogs, so I tuned my kicks and bass way lower than I normally do. It had the desired effect but you need a good sub to appreciate it.Annoyingly, I didn’t record the first minute or so. It was just the Edge playing the bassline without a pitch envelope, the pitch envelope being brought in gradually until it sounds like a kick, and then dropping in the actual Syntakt kicks. DAWless jam #17: A Deep View Alkis Tsapanidis 2023-08-30 | You’d think that I’d play something brighter in these surroundings… Alas!This is continuing along the same lines as Anomalous Materials, FM percussion, FM pads. There are two pad sounds here, track 8 is playing Atmos on 1, tracks 3, 4, and 5 are playing what I call the Sewer Pad from Gusty Pipes, each with different filter cutoffs, sequences, and LFO settings. The main lead percussion (if that’s a thing) is FM kinda-Toms playing a 3/8 meter with the middle note playing every 4th repetition, resetting over 8 bars. DAWless Jam #16: Anomalous Materials Alkis Tsapanidis 2023-08-28 | On holiday with the Syntakt again! After my last live set last Friday, I feel it’s time to try some new stuff. I added a lot more percussive elements than usual, and used the Syntakt the same way as I use the SQ-1 for the “melodies”, where I play with unquantised pitches.This is actually the third version of this I played and recorded. Jam #2 with Electribe MX, TD-3-MO, Crave and Blofeld Alkis Tsapanidis 2023-04-13 | This is another one out of the vault, recorded in November 2022. This was a performance I really felt would work quite well as a track, but I run into serious headroom and sound quality issues with the EMX when trying to mix it, I tried re-recording it bit by bit, sample replacement for the drums, and various other things, but ultimately the more I was screwing with it the less of its initial energy it had. This is what drove me to look at alternatives for the EMX, and to buy the Syntakt, especially as if I find myself in the same scenario I can use overbridge.It was recorded into Bitwig, which was also feeding Blofeld with a simple sequence as I didn't have a sequencer for it at the time. I probably used Valhalla Supermassive, as that's what I was running at the time.Used my favourite feature of the EMX for the drum performance: The arpeggiator strip.
