Im The Pasty Judge Saddlebags 73 2025-06-29 | I'm The Pasty JudgeIn this video I ride to Crackington Haven to try a Cornish pasty from The Cabin. It isn't something I take pleasure in of course. It was solely in the name of research as I explain in the video.I purchased my pasty and stowed it in a pannier on the Witch, my Royal Enfield Himalayan. Continuing on my mission I transported my precious cargo to Millook Haven, where piece by piece I carefully consumed said pasty and offered my verdict on its various attributes eg. crust, filling, moisture level, size....... It was good.......dam good. 9/10 and only losing a point because in my opinion it didn't quite make a LARGE. However, I didn't take a measuring stick and I was in the GREAT outdoors, so it may have just appeared small. I must admit it staved my hunger. All that was left was to hang some decorations and scout a footpath that my son and I will be using in the near future (as explained in the video.A couple of days after filming, I was informed that our friends could no longer make it down for the planned weekend. It was messy, works van didn't survive and I hurt all over for weeks, even months. Imagine the horror of a tractor turning right on a motorcycle. It's worth mentioning that they will sometimes cross to the right hand side of the road to swing into a left turn. I have also had the displeasure of a tractor reversing on me in a country lane despite my efforts to appear in his mirror for the two miles leading up to that point. There was no space between the tractor and trailer and hedges. Leave plenty of space between yourself and the agricultural machinery in front you. It was just such a good day on the bike. I start off by riding to the end of a road from Cadover Bridge. From there I show you a spectacular view looking down towards Burrator reservoir and Sheepstor village, before riding down to the dam and looking across the lake.Then through Princetown, passing Dartmoor prison and onto Venford Reservoir, again stopping on the dam to show you the lake. Then I head for my final destination, Leigh Tor (which is very near Poundsgate), but making a quick stop at the lovely little village of Holne. At Leigh Tor I put on my walking boots and eventually find a vantage point I discovered recently, looking across the treetops towards The River Dart. Finishing off with a sweaty climb, coffee and an egg bap. All along the way I waffle on and that includes chat about a couple of walks that Twinks and I have enjoyed recently. So, I bunged a couple of Relive vids on the end, just to make it even longer. It must surely be one of the best bike roads in Ireland. This footage first featured in my 'Enfields in Ireland' series which was filmed back in June 23'. We were riding the Wild Atlantic Way and took this excursion to take in the wonders of Healy Pass before dropping down to the ring of Kerry. There's always a great vibe at these little gatherings. We faced a few challenges on this one but it just makes it more memorable. So much fun! I stopped near Lydford in a car park near Dartmoor Inn for a view of the peaks, and proceeded to The Highwayman Inn at Sourton to see Sourton Tours. This all probably seemed a bit random, but it's the lead up to my neighbour informing me that dear ole Frank had recently suffered a stroke. In 2020 there was some building work going on next door and when I emerged from my front door, I heard someone say "Saddlebags". That was Frank - and that was the first time I'd been recognised from my YouTube channel. Lovely bloke - he said he could sit down with a cuppa tea and just listen to Ernie tick over. We had a little picnic and I flew the Mavic Mini 2 around. Stupid me left Twinks’ camera at home, sorry.We set off from just outside Minions, have a quick ride by Golitha Falls and Inkies Smokehouse before making our way to Lerryn. Lerryn is a pretty village near Lostwithiel on the River Lerryn which runs into the Fowey estuary. The parking is free, the Ship Inn is close by and has a great reputation, and there’s excellent pasties to be had from the shop at the car park entrance. In this video Twinks and I explore a road we've never been down and end up passing through Shaugh Prior. Then we rode down to Plymouth from Leemoor along an exceptional piece of road, hit the A38, went through Avonwick and Totnes before I decided where we were going. So we carry on through the beautiful village of Slapton, down to Slapton Sands where I mention it's military history and show Twinks the tank in the car park. We rode the same route I use for the Saddlebags Social Ride. In this video we start at Haytor just outside Bovey Tracey, and cross Dartmoor passing through Widecombe in the Moor and Dartmeet. It was an 80 mile ride, the bike performed brilliantly and there was no moaning and groaning when we dismounted at the end. Both walking quite normally. I found a new word and couldn't resist using it and I did so in a gateway. Life goals!(Coddiwomple - To travel purposefully toward an as-yet-unknown destination)After that I ride Ernie my Royal Enfield Classic 500 around some country lanes starting off near Illand which is a few miles outside Launceston. I bore you with a load of waffle about a weekend in Somerset with Twinks, treat you to another gateway view and offer some advice for next time you follow a farm trailer down a country lane. I have actually been very close to being squashed by one a couple of years ago. I followed all my own advice eg. keeping distance and trying to make myself visible but, I wasn't spotted and it started reversing towards me. Tooting my horn whilst paddling backwards made no difference and he was out-pacing me. I was a couple of seconds away from dropping the bike and making a run for it when thankfully, the vehicle it was reversing for found a gap to pull in and disaster was averted. Quite a story eh?
