MrLundScienceEdit: Sorry all. Conspiracy theorists and their potty-mouths are why we can't have nice things...such as a comments section on this video.
Originally performed in 1797 by Henry Cavendish, the Cavendish Experiment was the first method for measuring the gravitational constant, G, which reflects the strength of gravitational force. In modern times, though, the Cavendish Experiment, when performed carefully enough, can qualitatively show the attractive force of gravity between objects. Because gravity is such a weak force, and because the strength of the force is increased by larger masses and closer distances, high density materials are ideal. Having been inspired by other classroom Cavendish Experiment demonstrations, I chose to try my hand at this knowing that I had access to lead bricks. The results produced seem quite compelling.
The videos that most inspired this Cavendish quest came from Andrew Bennett, who has multiple, very well detailed and explained videos on his attempts at the Cavendish Experiment. If you wish to check them out, I recommend beginning here:

We should definitely celebrate that they made it over this hurdle, but we should also take it's reminder: Fall Migration Nectar is incredibly important to the population. But what if you're looking to expand your garden, but aren't exactly sure what plants are best to get the job done? That's where some Artificial Intelligence can lend a hand!

Due to higher population density, more pests to the milkweed and predators to the Monarch exist, and there's always NPV, OE, and herbicides/pesticides to contend with. In this episode, an urban milkweed sourcing adventure unfolds, finding some Monarchs along the way, and then full instruction on how to bleach treat eggs and leaves. Also, as an unexpected bonus, some OE spores on an egg are encountered, setting up a situation for an upcoming experiment (and thus, future episode).

I'm not a vlogger, but this is about as close as I'll get. As the main Raising Monarchs series is meant to be always topic based and informative, a "Behind The Scenes" episode is one that gives me the chance to address topics that are less informative, but still, some may wish to know. It's the "extras" that not all, but some viewers have an interest in.
In this episode, I discuss my geographical relocation (still Michigan, different city) and what some of the early rebuilding steps were like. With no milkweed in the yard, and a more urban setting, I was starting from scratch. It didn't take long, though, to find the way...

If growing milkweed, is this something we can do that will benefit our efforts? Do we need to do it? And even if we don't need to, is there still a benefit if we choose to? What techniques are better or worse? We can read plenty of internet blogs and pages that have opinions on this topic from every angle, but I say, evidence always speaks louder than words. Time to put seed scarification to the test!

It's a simple question, but as I try to show in this episode, simple questions can still have complexity to their answers. Which milkweed is the "best" depends upon how you are choosing to measure "best", and this can be different from person to person, and their individual needs. Still, we attempt to explore what is likely important to consider when making your choice as to what milkweed is right for you and your intentions for it.

(Help The Monarch Butterfly)MrLundScience2020-07-18 | So you're looking for some milkweed seeds? What are your options? Whether you wish to acquire some for the future, or you're itching to get some seeds going so you can sow them ASAP, this video discusses some readily available options, and some ways to use those options in the future. Planting milkweed, being the number one way to help out the Monarch Butterfly, is essential to everything else we are doing! #PlantMilkweed!
I have different uses for milkweed. Some are for caterpillar food. Some for seeds. This is some food for thought if you're getting into this long term. "Milkweed Categories" - youtu.be/QmD7JyaZCCc

I'm not exactly sure how you think about your milkweed resources, and I trust that there's multiple successful ways to go about it. In some cases/comments I've heard or directly read about, I know that some issues that come up, I never myself have encountered. Beyond that, I realized too that with the way I think about milkweed in certain categories, I would not be able to encounter some of these issues. Typically, these issues fall into the food shortage situation. I thought for some, it may be helpful if I discussed how I look at milkweed, what categories I put various sources of it in my head, and how I use those categories. As always, not saying this is the best way and that everyone needs to do it this way. Just showing what I do, why I do it, and what results I get.Peace! And thank you for taking a furthered interest in milkweed and planting it to help out the Monarchs!

How do fossils form? Are they really still parts of the lifeforms that caused them, or something else? And what does "permineralization" mean? What, you didn't think there was an "at home" way to learn about fossils? Puh-shaw! In this episode of Indy Labs, we'll do a fun modeling demonstration you can participate in too! And in the process, we'll learn how fossils are made by the Earth over incredibly long lengths of time, while simulating the process with sponge material. By the end, you may just have some DIY "fossils" you wish to display!
The Indy Labs series focuses on at home science experiments that are low cost and (usually) easy to do, but still drive the science concepts home.
Some science videos show you how to do something cool, but explain very little of it. Others explain concepts, but are very passive and give the viewer little to actually do. With Indy Labs, we put the science in your hands, teaching you concepts, but at the same time, giving you an experiment to try on your own!
If you try the lab, please leave a comment and let us know how it went Also, snap some photos of YOUR at home trials for this or any of the Indy Labs experiments, and upload them to Twitter and/or Instagram. Use #IndyLabs so we can all see your results!

(Shuv-It Cancer Day Submission)MrLundScience2020-07-10 | #ShuvItCancerDay is an awesome charity event to help raise funds for cancer research, begun by an incredibly rad Scottish gal, Elaine Shallcross. Diagnosed with cancer, Elaine decided, it's time to try something new, and challenged herself, having never been on a skateboard, to attempt a Pop ShuvIt today, July 10th, her birthday. Elaine passed, sadly, on June 10th, but not before she had already set in motion an inspirational challenge that has taken the skateboarding world by storm. Her story of dedication, and never being out of the game, had a major impact. Thank you Elaine for helping me shake the rust off this skater!

I thought this fast to learn tactic would be a good way to start off a season where milkweed will be given more of a focus. Using the toilet paper core allows a non-plastic way to give sprouts a head start, which can be quickly transferred to soil in an eco-friendly, no hassle way. If you are new to this series, I highly recommend checking out the "core" of Raising Monarchs, Parts 1 - 5, which shows in detail, how I raise Monarchs from egg to adult, and how you can too with essentially zero cost using household items.

Also, what makes a scientific model a good one? Both questions are examined as we consider seasonal changes from the viewpoint of Flat Earth versus modern cosmology. Then, the Flat Earth model's explanation for the seasons is put to the test with an experiment you can recreate in your own back yard.

Antibubbles are a relatively recent phenomenon explored by science. Yet, making an antibubble is something you've already, probably, accidentally done. In this episode, we'll show you some tips on how to effectively and consistently make antibubbles, and give some options as to what types of experiments you could design to explore the idea further!

In this latest installment of that exploration, Henry Cavendish's famous experiment (aptly called the "Cavendish Experiment") is recreated in a qualitative, classroom setting. By using high density masses (lead bricks), visually compelling evidence of matter attracting matter is presented.

Multiple variations of reactions exist that produce the same immediate and stunning effect. This video details the variation involving iodate and bisulfite solutions. The full reaction mechanism is detailed with a focus on what variables can be altered to affect the rate of the overall reaction.Flat Earth Electrostatic Gravity - Debunk The Funk #12MrLundScience2019-12-06 | Of the problems the Flat Earth idea faces, gravity is one of the largest. In the previous episode, we examined how some proponents of the Flat Earth idea try to explain away gravity with the concept of density. In this episode, we dissect another avenue some FE enthusiasts try to use to describe gravity as not a gravitational force, but an electrical one. Using an easily reproducible static electricity demonstration, the idea of "electrostatic gravitation" is debunked, shown to be demonstrably false.
