In this segment with three mics, using Warm Audio's WA-251s and WA-47jr and then a 4 mic setup using both Warm Audio's WA-251s, the WA-47jr and the WA-84. In this video I discuss how it is achievable to get great tones but also how now, more than ever, it is a lot easier for artist to record their songs, EPs, and, albums with the advancement of technology and how equipment once unattainable and only afforded to those in professional studios, is now available to those who seek classic sounding gear without the classic expense. With home studios on the rise I believe Warm Audio is the perfect mic for these establishments. The mics are a perfect combination of sounding professional while costing a fraction of the originals that they were based off of.For the 1st demonstration in part 2, I use two Warm Audio WA-251s as overheads using the "Glyn Johns" method, and the WA-47jr in front of the kick. The classic ‘251 became extremely popular as a vocal microphone in the 1960’s and is now considered to be one of the greatest condenser microphones ever created. The classic ‘251 is still widely used today in professional recording studios but has become extremely rare and cost prohibitive to acquire. As I mention in the video, I think it's very important if you have a limited number of mics you can purchase either because of budget or because of inputs, then this is definitely a mic you would want to purchase. From Vocals, to acoustic guitar, bass, electric guitars, drums, strings and many more, this is a mic you will want to have in your arsenal. Accompanied with the WA-251's for the third mic is the WA-47jr. The WA-47jr is an FET transformerless version of the highly renowned classic '47 microphone. This microphone is also very versatile and I think a must have for any home studio. I placed this mic 12-18 inches in front of the kick drum while the WA-14 is still in the same position but now in the cardioid position and now raised up 3 feet above the kick drum. The next part of this demonstration is with 4 Warm Audio mics, the WA-251, the WA-47jr., and the WA-84. The WA-84 is a small diaphragm condenser microphone based on classic microphone circuitry. The WA-84 is a fully discrete Class A design that utilizes a CineMag USA transformer, polystyrene and Wima capacitors and a Fairchild FET. I place the WA-251s are stereo paired overheads in this setup, withe WA-47jr 12" in front of the kick drum and the WA-84, 2" above the snare drum facing the center of the snare head. This narrative has been pushed, reiterated, and accepted, for the most part, as an undeniable truth. Is this actually fact or is it hype? In this video I explore tonal quality differences in the two shell configurations and whether or not it is worth giving up some of the many benefits a non-virgin kick drum shell has to offer. These benefits might include perfect tom placement every time, easier positioning of cymbal stands without having to deal with tom placement, being able to choose lighter cymbal stands, less tom and stand wobble while playing, kick drum stays in place from the weight of the tom/toms and tom stand.In this video, I demonstrate how each kick drum compares with out toms and with toms. Does having a non-virgin kick drum with the tom mount going through the shell constrict shell resonation? This particular kit is part of Dixon's Artisan series kits available for purchase. Dixon has making drums and hardware since 1979 and have recently started making a push in the upper line series of drums which compete and or surpass with other major brand drum companies. These drums use 6 ply African mahogany shells, 7.2mm thick for the bass drum and 5.6mm for the toms and floor toms with a 45 degree counter cut bearing edge. All Artisan kits come with a lacquer finish, this particular kit has a one of kind (for now) white sparkle lacquer at my request. Dixon boast of having an almost unlimited choice of lacquered finish so customers can have their true personal touch. These drums came with die cast hoops for toms and floor toms but triple flange can also be requested and finished out with satin chrome hardware.
