This is the third or fourth year that I've been growing potatoes using a deep mulch (aka Ruth Stout) method. This is really helpful if you have hard soil and want to grow amazing potatoes without digging. It works best if you have a steady supply of compost and mulching materials. Make sure you pile up enough mulch or the sun will touch the potatoes and you will get green spots on them.
