Campusanis 2021-05-23 | This is my version of Novo Amor’s “Haven”, which appears in the trailer for the upcoming Life is Strange: True Colors. I’m already in love with the soundtrack and hope we’ll get to hear a lot more from Novo Amor in the game!

This one was difficult to figure out and I’m still not entirely sure what exactly is going on in the original, but I had to give it a go. The super lush harmonies of guitars and vocals just got me immediately. Unsurprisingly, I’m really hyped for True Colors, and I’m especially excited that music seems to play kind of a big role. Can I cover Alex and Steph’s band? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Campusanis 2021-02-01 | It’s time for another rockified version of a song from the Life is Strange OST, namely “Got Well Soon” aka the soundtrack to the End of the World Party in Episode 4! READY FOR THE MOSH PIT, SHAKA BRAH, AND NO, SAYING THAT WILL NEVER GET OLD. 😁🤘

The original is quite electronic, so this one was definitely a challenge but fun! Basically I piled guitars upon guitars on top of each other (totally a legit and advisable technique in audio engineering *cough*) until the RAWK couldn’t hide anymore.

What Kind of World - a “Life is Strange” Fan Song inspired by Episode 4

Campusanis 2020-10-20 | I wrote this song after having replayed the first Life is Strange’s Episode 4 recently. It’s written from Chloe’s perspective and can of course only be about/for Rachel. In short: It doesn’t get more emo than this.

My goal is to write and record one original song about each episode of every Life is Strange game and right now I am only ONE song away from that, namely one about Episode 5. Check out the other ones on my channel if you haven’t yet!

So this song… Sheesh. What a load of work. It even “switches between alternate timelines” (musically) a couple times throughout, because, you know, Episode 4… But I’ve needed to write this one for a long time. Episode 4 is one my all-time favorites and Ashly Burch's performance gets me every time. It's so raw, it's almost scary. Hopefully I could channel some of that energy into the song.

re: Stacks, Electric Guitar Cover (Original by Bon Iver)

Campusanis 2020-06-10 | And now for something completely different… I only discovered this song very recently, and I instantly fell in love with it, so I knew I had to try my hand at a cover. This is my version of re: Stacks, played on an electric guitar but otherwise pretty true to the original, with only minor additions. I also used the song as an excuse to go for a little hike along the river outside my house.

It’s weird how when I first heard the song, I immediately pictured a quiet and snowy winter’s day, which turns out to be the exact environment the album was written and recorded in. I’m always amazed by the kinds of feelings music is apparently able to capture.

Also, I’ve never sung anything completely in falsetto/head voice, so this was definitely a new experience. OH WELL. Thanks for listening, everyone. :)

Life is Strange 2 Ending but with Licensed Music

Campusanis 2020-01-05 | This is how I imagine the LiS2 ending if it had a licensed track instead of the score. The song is "Berth" by Gregory Alan Isakov. As soon as I heard it, I thought it sounded like a Life is Strange song.

I don't usually upload music that isn't my own, but I love this song in combination with the Redemption ending, so I had to show you guys. I just edited the video part to match the length of the track and to align it with certain moments in the music. The song gives the ending a bit of a different feel, which I think is cool.

I think it’s a really cool song and perhaps a bit underrated. If you’re confused, this is the song Cassidy plays on her guitar during the episode (plus you can hear it briefly at the “midnight swim”). I like to think of it as a little (final? 😢) tribute to her and all the fun times.

Campusanis 2019-10-07 | I’m back! Sorry for the all caps title, but this is an all caps kind of song. Imagine a wild, wild world where Chloe wrote a song for Sean and Daniel, and that’s pretty much what I was going for. This is my tribute to Life is Strange 2, Episode 4: Faith.

I was looking to change it up a little, so I tried to stray (a little) from my usual formula with this one. It’s probably the most involved song, production-wise, I’ve recorded in a while and even though it took forever, I think I’m okay with how it turned out. After Saudade (my previous original), I realized how much I’d written myself into a rut, and I really want to keep it fresh on here. Let me know what you think!

Saudade (One Last Goodbye) - Original Life is Strange Song

Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never return. One English translation of the word is missingness, although it might not convey the feeling of deep emotion attached to the word “saudade”.
Saudade was once described as "the love that remains" after someone is gone. It is the recollection of feelings, experiences, places, or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, well-being, which now triggers the senses and makes one live again. It can be described as an emptiness, like someone or something that should be there in a particular moment is missing, and the individual feels this absence. It brings sad and happy feelings together: sadness for missing and happiness for experiencing the past.

I've been meaning to write a song inspired by this particular piece of fan art, so here it is! I stumbled upon the Portuguese word “saudade” a few days after I first saw the art, and it immediately struck me as a feeling that could be a regular occurrence for Chloe. So that made me want to write a song which seems happy on the surface but has something more buried under all the cheerful major chords; like a nostalgic dream where everything seems perfect and not broken, but you can’t shake the feeling that something’s off… This one's dedicated to Chloe and Rachel.

OK, maybe not all them qualify as “anthems” but if you listened to this kind of music around the 2000s, you probably know these songs. In any case, there were many things I could’ve written about, but I decided to basically go with what life must feel like for Sean immediately after the showdown at the end, plus an outlook on where things are headed for him and Daniel. Lots of feels to be had, obviously.

GRIS Main Theme, Guitar Cover

Campusanis 2019-04-18 | I recently played Gris and loved the awesome soundtrack by Berlinist. This is an electric-guitar version of the main theme playing during the beginning of the game.

I initially wanted to arrange this as a kind of fingerstyle piece for one solo guitar, but that was a bit too ambitious. Now there are 13 layered guitar tracks in the final version, so until I grow some more hands, I prefer it the way it is. ;)

Campusanis 2018-11-26 | Soooo after recording Santa Monica Dream two weeks ago, I got kind of into Angus & Julia Stone. Turns out they've got plenty other great songs! "Yellow Brick Road" is one I've gotten particularly addicted to, for some reason it makes me think of late night road trips out into the unknown...
