Sequels we may never see:
Starting off we have Spiderman 4, despite entering pre production and slated for a 2011 release, Sam Raimi went through multiple scripts and concluded no proper follow up story was applicable which lead to the reboot with Andrew Garfield. Even after Tobey’s stellar comeback in SpiderMan No Way Home, the possibility was confirmed dead in the mud this past January.
Speaking of said reboot, it’s fair to say we aren’t getting The Amazing Spider-Man 3 anytime soon either. After The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed, plans to finish the trilogy were dropped. This is what brought Tom Holland’s SpiderMan into the MCU which thankfully is getting its 3rd movie this July.
Up next is any kind of theatrical follow up to Transformers One. Director Josh Cooley confirmed during a BotCon panel that Paramount Animation explicitly told him they are not interested in moving forward with a follow-up, which cancelled Josh’s plans to bring the Cybertron prequel story into a full trilogy.
Next up is The Nice Guys 2, Ryan Gosling confirmed a sequel to the beloved buddy-cop comedy will never happen because the first film was crushed at the box office by The Angry Birds Movie. Not sure if I agree with blaming competition for canceling a sequel rather than strategizing for a better release window but I digress.
And saving what hurts most for last, for those with any lasting hope for Zack Snyder's Justice League Part 2 & 3, I regret to inform you that Warner Bros completely reset their cinematic universe under James Gunn, officially ending the "Snyderverse" storylines and leaving the Darkseid cliffhanger permanently unresolved.
