Telice Summerfield is an athletic arts instructor, a local dancer, and a UC Berkeley alum who founded TURF dancing (Taking Up Room on the Floor), a freestyle dance that originated in West Oakland while she attended Berkeley.
“I dance to find community; I dance to free myself from certain narratives; I dance to free myself from certain physical boundaries. I bring feminine energy to the space, whereas turfing is a very male-dominated culture.”
