It's finally here!! I said I would do this cover waaay back in February when I had a little vote to have people decide which song I should cover. I finally decided to cover it not only for this month's 8-Bit Battleground, but also to enter in this month's Pixel Mixers contest. The theme this month is Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy, and this cover represents Team Sci-Fi!

For this song, I really wanted to highlight the dissonant and evil sounds that this song has. I also just had a few specific ideas for the arrangement sitting in my head since before I held the vote for it. I knew I wanted to use my 8-String to make it sound ultra crushing and heavy since it's in the key of F#, and for the first time I tuned by bass down to F# as well. I wasn't sure if that would even work so well since it becomes near impossible to even tell what note the bass is playing when it's that low, but in conjunction with the other instruments it becomes apparent, and since it really makes the foundation of the ultra heavy section of the song what it is, I'm glad I went that route.

Since the song was already in 7/4, I didn't have to do a whole lot to make it proggy, but I went ahead and took it to the next level in some sections anyway, like the part where the main rhythm kind of "shifts over" an eighth note (making it a bar of 15/8 instead of 7/4 or 14/8 which is the equivalent) but the hi-hat and snare continue as if they were in 7/4... just some math metal bullsh*t lol), as well as the section later with just the rhythm section continually going up in note values. It was pretty difficult to get the timing on the quintuplets and septuplets accurately. I kind of adopted that idea from a Mike Mangini drum solo where he kind of does the same thing with snare hits, but he goes all the way up to the 9th tuplets I think? He's just insane lol
