Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Island is Open! Voted the most beautiful place in the world, in the last years it was closed due to over tourism and severe damage to the ecosystem. However you can now visit this famous and incredible beach and it is something you should not miss out on! It’s a magical paradise.
Today I end up on to the most beautiful island in the world! I’ve heard of Maya Bay and Phi Phi Island for years, before ever coming to Thailand. Phi Phi Islands consist of not only one island, it is an archipelago of six islands. Maya Bay, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh form part of the 6 islands.
For anyone who hasn’t been here yet, I highly recommend it. The famous long tail boats, turquoise teal water, caves and limestone rock formation, snorkeling with big colourful fish and interacting with the macaque monkeys, are just a few things you will encounter during your visit.
Maya Bay is well-known from being featured in the movie called “The Beach”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The film was a huge success and brought fame and interest to the island. It is calculated that before Maya Bay’s closure, the beach had around 5000 people per day, visitors and tourists coming here on boats.
The beach closed due to severe damage to the environment and now the beach is finally open with some conditions:
Only 400 guests per day
If you visit without a tour boat you need to pay 400 baht national park fee
No swimming allowed
You have a limited time at Maya Bay (around 1 hour)
The places that you can visit are: Phi Phi Lagoon, Phi Phi Don, Maya Bay, Monkey Beach, Viking Cave and Khai island. You will visit some or all of these places, depending on the type of tour you choose. You could also go on a private tour around these islands and decide exactly where to go and how long you would like to spend in each place!
I booked my boat tour through Klook which was significantly cheaper than buying a tour in Phuket (Patong Town) from one of the stands. The tour offered food, snorkelling mask, transport on a speedboat across the islands and many other things that you can see in the video (not sponsored).
