Back in November 2019 when the JP P5R spoilers started kicking in, I was active in Tumblr talking, reblogging, and reacting to P5R spoiler content. I remembered seeing posts about “The Last of the Real Ones” being the right song for what happened between Joker and Akechi in P5R. That’s because of the lyrics. For instance, “I wonder if your therapist knows anything about me” makes me visualize Akechi wondering if Maruki knows about what happened in the engine room, because Ren probably must have talked to Maruki about Akechi and his regret for not being able to save him. Maruki did mention that he created the dream world not only to make everyone happy, but to make Joker and Akechi “have a new fresh start together”. In other words, Joker’s wish in the dream world is for Akechi to stay alive.

This is one of the romantically subtle things between Joker and Akechi that happens in the game. There is so much more evidence that their relationship is romantically implied. Take a look at the lyrics of the “Our Light” song that plays at the end game credits. The song is about Joker mourning about Akechi but tries to move on from the loss. It’s a sad love song specifically because there’s one line in the song that says “温もりも重ねた手も声も目覚めれば微睡みへと消えて” which translates to “If I woke up your warmth, your hand on mine and your voice too
Would disappear together with my slumber.”

And the new Akechi confidant scenes, oh my gawsh, it’s subtly gay. It’s like they’re going on dates. I can go on and on about why ShuAke is romantically implied in P5R but I wanna talk about this video I made.

Since the theme I choose for ShuAke Week Day 1 is “Stars”, I added star-related things like shooting stars, sparkling stars, and the star transition effect. I also made the theme of the video purplish because “The Last of the Real Ones” song comes from the album MANIA which is a purple themed album. Man, recreating the 2/2 scene in song, hurts but it’s also great cuz one of the things I like most about ShuAke is how dramatic and angsty it is.

This whole music video is basically about ShuAke expressing how they feel towards each other throughout the events of P5R. Like for instance the lyrics “Tell me I am the only one, even if it’s not true” would imply that Akechi deep inside wants to be the only person that matters to Joker but he knows that Joker already has his group of friends.

“I’m done with having dreams”, “You take all the fear from me”, is basically Joker deciding to fight Maruki and end the dream world. He fears that he’ll lose Akechi after the dream world ends, but Akechi’s stubborn determination to destroy the fake reality, took away Joker’s fear, because ending the dream world is what Akechi wants.

I used to say that I don’t ship anything but I ship ShuAke. Why is that? It’s a LONG story. Actually I’ve been liking ShuAke since July 2019. 😅

There is no dance motion for The Last of the Real Ones song. I used the motion for one of the dance versions of Cantarella lol. I did the lip sync motion though.
