I love that I’m able to try out different art techniques, cut them up and make them a joy multiplier — these little canvases are the perfect win-win for the recipients and the creator. In this video, you can see how I use my @gelliarts gel plate, acrylic paints and stencils to create layered prints, cut them up and embellish them before handing them out. I usually write encouraging and appreciative words on the back before handing these out to grocery clerks, library volunteers, servers at restaurants, receptionists at offices, delivery truck drivers and all those people whose lives intersect with mine for a brief moment. Mixed Media Gratitude Tags on Black Watercolor Paper Mansi Makes 2022-07-19 | I have never use black watercolor paper in combination with gouache paints -- this was such a fun experiment to do and I am really thrilled with the results. Why black watercolor paper? Well, because I wanted to see if it can be used with anything else besides metallic watercolors and second, because the sheen of those metallic watercolors as a wash over all the other layers is just absolutely spectacular in real life.As you watch this video, I will reiterate that paper is not something to be afraid of and your supplies aren't sacred and meant for hoarding :) USE your supplies and if you can share your creative pieces with strangers in the community and light up their days, even better. Layered Mixed Media Journaling Mansi Makes 2022-01-12 | I recently acquired some oil sticks and decided to play with them in combination with some acrylic paints. As I journaled, it was clear to me that this spread needed a face --- one that represented women in all their complex, multi-dimensional, multi-faceted layers. Grafix Color Palette Mixed Media Journal Mansi Makes 2021-12-02 | @grafixarts has released a brand new mixed media journal that comes pre-punched with six discs and six different substrates. Customization of pages and flexibility are key and the disc systems allow for pages to be removed and reinserted. Journals lay completely flat. The Mixed Media Journal is also a great introduction to a variety of surfaces, which is why I loved starting a color palette journal where I can test out a bunch of different mediums on different substrates. Clay Ornaments with Stamps Mansi Makes 2021-11-25 | I made a quick process video for the way I used these stamps to make ornaments -- please refer to the instructions on your Sculpey box and also check your toaster oven settings. My toaster oven isn't calibrated properly so I had to experiment quite a bit until I found just the right temperature and figured out the right amount of time for my clay ornaments to bake and not burnI also recommend placing your ornament on a piece of cardstock (not hard to find if you're a paper crafter) and using aluminum foil as a tent over your ornament. Just make sure your aluminum isn't touching the clay.That's really all there is to it! So simple. And once the ornament has cooled down, you can color the stamped image with any supplies you choose ... again, experiment and see what you like. I hope this video is helpful. Turkish map fold and mini book clip Mansi Makes 2021-10-25 | Quick flip through of this little two-in-one book package. I used one gel plate print with feathers to create the big Turkish-map-fold book, mini book paper clip and belly band. The cover was made with another gel plate print — I have so many in my stash!You can get so much mileage out of your prints! The pages inside the mini book are made from 1/3 sheet of copy paper — so you can basically make three mini books out of one sheet of copy paper. Isn’t that cool?Just some folding and gluing and you’re done :) I’m not sharing a how-to because there are many great videos already on how to do a Turkish fold. A book about stars Mansi Makes 2021-10-20 | As many of you know, I had a bad fall exactly four weeks ago sustaining multiple internal injuries and a couple of minor fractures. While the bone-breaking was minimal, they were the "wrong" bones! I can't do much without my hands and not being able to use them for any creative endeavors this past month has been a huge struggle! So, I was thrilled to bits when I received "Catch A Falling Star", the new Anita Jeram stamp and die set, the same day that I got the green light to craft again! Wishes do come true, you see :)I love the huge mice in these 6x6 sets just as much as I love the mini mouse wishing upon a star and if you leave a comment on my blog, you could win this mini-cutie in a giveaway! Scroll down for the details. I made this book for my daughter and even penned my own version of "Twinkle twinkle little star," inspired by the sentiments included in this set. I just love how this book carries you through the story of this little mouse, encouraging her along the way to pursue her dreams. As you'll notice in the flip-through, I used a couple of other stamps previously released in the Anita Jeram series as well as some tile background stamps that were released last year. It's so fun to be able to combine different stamp sets to create a storyline and I love being able to do this in the form of mini-books. I also used star-patterned paper as one of my layers to bring this book together and printed my poem out on glittery gold-flecked paper for added oomph. And if you watch closely, the front cover has a repeat star pattern in watermark ink ... it's all in those little details, people! I love how this book turned out and I CANNOT wait to see my daughter's reaction when she receives it. Hide and Seek Technique Mansi Makes 2021-10-04 | One of the more popular classes during the Art Party weekend hosted by @TracyWeinzapfelStudios in August was using my Hide and Seek technique to paint a branch of leaves. It’s my go-to process for when I just want to play mindlessly. I throw some paint on paper (in this case chipboard from @grafixarts), add some marks and draw some leaves. Then it’s just a matter of painting around the outline to make the branch my focal image. What you see me do here is paint the front and back cover of my journal that holds paintings using this same technique. You’ll notice that each time I do this, the look and feel is different. It’s a very forgiving way of exploring new or unfamiliar or unused mediums in your craft stash. It’s also very relaxing. Have you tried this technique with a motif that speaks to you? It’s all about the process Mansi Makes 2021-09-30 | When I create anything in my art journal, I have one rule: to give myself the permission to change my mind. Fluidity is important. I might have an idea or a feeling I pursue initially but if it doesn’t sit right with me in the moment, I don’t keep myself tethered to it. This video is part of the mindfulness exercises I had done as part of The Artist’s Way...the prompt was “I AM” and I had written down a number of things about me -- all things positive and negative ... when I started painting over the words, I felt a strong urge to create leaves. Something about renewal, evolution and growth...and I could have left it like that but when the leaves were done, it felt wrong, disjointed, uninspired. And I felt another strong urge — to paint a face. I didn’t know if it would work...I had no clue if I would “ruin” the leaves and all that under painting beyond repair. But I chose to give in to my intuition instead of bowing down to fear. You’ll see the page start transforming drastically at the 2:34 mark. My strokes were bolder, more purposeful and more assertive with the face than they had been with the leaves. But if I hadn’t painted the leaves first, if I hadn’t gone through that process...the face wouldn’t have come to me. Trusting your gut is such an important part of the creative process. Even if everything in your mind tells you otherwise. And I think the more we train ourselves to follow our hearts, the more vulnerable and emotional our art becomes. The more authentic and raw it is. The deeper it connects. I hope this video inspires you to create freely. Give yourself permission to deviate from “the plan.” Stay open to new ideas. Listen to that little voice. And do it all afraid. 20-minute journaling with no agenda Mansi Makes 2021-09-17 | Changing your mind is ok! As you’ll see throughout the creation of this journal spread, I changed my mind about what I wanted…one moment it was one thought and the next moment, it was another. I only had 20 minutes in between running errands and picking up my kid from school, so I couldn’t deliberate over my choices. I was just going to paint and see where it went. Having a time constraint, even if it is an artificial one, sometimes forces us to get creative in ways we didn’t know we could! It also gives us permission to just play. Getting Creative with Stamps using @grafixarts Products Mansi Makes 2021-09-03 | Every time a new release comes out from Colorado Craft Company’s Anita Jeram series, I am in awe. This time was no different. And my head was spinning with ideas when I saw all the amazing little critters — but the one stamp that stood out right away was the Conga Line and I knew I had to make something 3-D out of it. I love working with the @grafixarts line of products, be they the Dura-lar archival polyester film or their craft plastic but the white Shrink Film was new to me.
