This led to Antonio his early interest in history but especially in castles and palaces. He prolonged to live in such a building so much that he devoted a lifetime of earnings and craftsmanship to it. Antonio studied hard and got a decent job in a well-regarded Portuguese city, every single moment of free time he got he would devote to the construction of his master plan, a self-build castle. During this period he also met his wife Céu, who was surprising in his project and even helped him with construction and decorations. Céu and Antonio got married, and also had 2 boys and a girl. At the start of their relationship, Patrick was a truck driver and worked countless hours away from home, this led Josephine to find something of her own and she decided to put her passion for flowers into a business. Karl Vitzthum, the architect, decided to give the building a Classical Revival-style design to convey a sense of security and permanence. Many newspapers called the bank "Chicago's most elegant bank" when it was finished in 1926. The five-story building cost about $650,000, which is about 11 million dollars today. For many years, it served the local community in this Chicago neighborhood. Families would come here to do all kinds of banking activities, but most of the stories you still hear are about going to the grand vault in the basement to check on a deposit box. In the mid-1990s, the bank was rebranded as Banco Popular, which was a natural occurrence because the Puerto Rican population of this particular neighborhood grew exponentially. For two more decades, this was the communities centerpiece, but the expenditures of keeping up such a building grew out of hand, and the management decided to leave this property behind and move the bank across the street to a smaller and cheaper facility. Although it has been 14 years since the last customer walked through its doors, the property hasn't let out its last breath yet. Today we will show you the aftermath of these events and take you to some of Detroit's many abandoned churches, we will take a fascinating tour through an abandoned Gothic Revival Church, afterward a 1960s Body of Christ Church and as the cherry on the cake, we will end this documentary with a Vietnamese Church. Let’s start this off with the Woodward Presbyterian Church, a magnificent building that was constructed in 1911 in Gothic Revival style by the architect Sidney Badgley. At its height, there were more than 2200 church members and it even got the title of being the most beautiful church in the greater Detroit area. The Construction of this prominent building started in 1898, only a year after the neighboring building, Lynnewood hall! The design and construction of this renowned masterpiece were ordered by William L Elkins and carried out by the architect Horace Trumbauer. Elkins Manor Boasts 45 rooms that have been inspired by and built in the style of the Italian High Renaissance, Every single corner in this place has been thought about and designed into perfection. After the Elkins lived here for 3 decades the place was sold off and bought by The Dominican Sisters who converted it into a women's religious retreat, Thousands of Women visited and lived inside the Estate over the course of 75 years, and the remains of that time period are still to be seen throughout the mansion. The Dominican sisters took exceptional care of the estate and up kept every single piece of historical value in detail, but unfortunately, over time the needs and economics of the Dominican sisters changed, They could not keep up the mortgage payments on this massive property and filed for bankruptcy. In the year 2013, The Dominican sisters vacated the property. Around a century ago Mister Peter AB Widener ordered the architect Horace Trumbauer to design and build the mansion. Over the course of three years, this masterpiece was built and became one of the biggest mansions in the continental United States. The construction cost was 8 million dollars, calculating inflation that would be around 260 million today. With 110 rooms, 55 bedrooms, 20 Bathrooms, 5 art galleries, and many more common rooms that serve very specific purposes, Lynnewood Hall was a dream come true for Peter, it was unlike any gilded age mansion built before its time. Later on, the Mansion fell into the hands of Peter his son Joseph, who was fascinated by everything French and let the mansion be redesigned into a French country estate. At one point over 40 family members lived inside its walls, one can only imagine the atmosphere that used to transpire inside this place! Stalon was a descendant of the Italian Ferrari family, he even had rather close roots to the world-famous founder of Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari. He was a true jack of all trades, Stalon Graduated as an Accountant and worked in the field for many years, but after some time his father was stepping down as mayor and Stalon decided to jump on the opportunity and run for Mayor, and surprisingly enough he won the elections. After being mayor for many years, Mister Stalon wanted to change his career again, he went back to school and became a dentist. He finally found his lifelong passion and practiced it until the day he left planet earth. Considering the size of the town, and its remoteness, it still had some great impact on the surrounding area and numerous famous musicians and orchestras performed here over its lifetime, one of the most influential and famous ones was Giacomo Puccini. The Art Nouveau building acted as a centerpiece of the town, it was an impressive masterpiece in its hay-day plastered in Gold moldings, crafted artworks, and beautiful upholstery. But sadly its importance dwindled over the years, bigger theaters in more populous cities took over its role, and after having changed hand’s between multiple owners it was bought again by the townships who made plans for a renovation in the early 1970s. These plans were completely drafted, but sadly, the execution of these plans never came to fruition. 50 years have passed, the building is slowly withering with time and pieces are falling apart, the plans for renovation were scrapped a long time ago and are probably locked away in some governmental archive… Today we will take you inside this once marvelous place and give you a glimpse behind its closed-off walls. The owners built this house themselves at the beginning of the 1800s and lived here together with the entire family, they used to work on the wine fields that belonged to the noble Spanish counts, and all year round they would produce grapes for a nearly livable wage. Since the 2000s nobody has lived in the house anymore, but there are clear signs that somebody still came there until a few years ago. But unfortunately world war 2 was just around the corner and Jean Francois was at the right age to fight for the country, … With all pride, he fought for his country but sadly he passed away during one of the brutal battles. Misses Madeleine became a widow and lived in Greave for decades, she also had to take care of their child on her own, later on, in life, she met her second lover Maurice and she spend the remainder of her life with him. They continued living in the wonderful mansion she got as a present from her parents and even decided to get a child together at a later age. She ended up being the last one surviving and passed away at the beautiful age of 95 years old. Around 4 decades ago, on a peaceful morning in the meadows of the French countryside, disaster struck, a small electrical heater caught fire and one of the outer wings of this mesmerizing castle went up in flames. For the last inhabitant mister Roger, this was pure devastation. At the time of the fire, mister Roger was already 70 years and lived alone in the castle, he planned to live out the last years of his life in this beloved place but Mother Nature thought differently about it. The castle was severely damaged and there was not enough money left for him to attempt a restoration. Mister Roger moved to a nursing home where he lived out his life until he passed away in the year 2004 at the age of 94. The Castle was passed on to his children, but there is no money to restore the castle. Many people around town speculate that it is due to the chocking and dark display of taxidermy animals that can be seen throughout the house. Mister Jean-Louis started becoming obsessed with hunting after his wife passed away, and his children moved out, he was a very secluded person and could mostly be found inside his home or in the nearby Forrest. In the year 1958 Mister Aime Gerblo divorced his former wife and wanted a new life. He decided that he wanted to live far away from civilization. He set out on a quest and build a tiny house on top of a mountain on the outskirts of a small picturesque French town. Mister Aime Gerblo lived here alone for over 5 decades, but he didn’t mind, he was happy with the way his life was and he enjoyed the time by himself a lot. He filled his days with creative work, he loved to paint, read and write. His life consisted of simplicity and self-sufficiency. After his passing in the year 2012, the house got abandoned for some time, it was too secluded for most people, but by surprise, after more than a year of abandonment, an Arabian Family bought it in the year 2014 and transformed it into their vacation home. There influence is to be seen all over the inside and outside of the house, But it didn’t last for long because only a year later they abandoned it already and never came back to this place. This was once the residence of an 18th century noble and his beloved family. He was a general who was active in the French revolutionary wars and defended the country with great pride. Even after he had passed, his descendants continued to live and laugh within the walls of the castle. Inside these walls, many clues and artifacts tell the events that took place here. The number of historic artifacts that have been left behind over the centuries is unfathomable. Every single room and corner in this place holds precious memories from the former times. It has now been a long time since there was activity in this wonderful place. The descendants of the French general have moved on and relocated to the bigger cities in search of work, leaving the castle behind to slowly wither away. When you walk through this place you get the feeling of being time-warped into the past. Walking through the rooms of the castle gives you the feeling of being time-warped into the past. Even though it is empty of life the walls still tell tales of the people that once lived here. If the walls in this place could talk they would tell tails of the former occupation. In the beginning, they were a simple farming family, eking out their existence on the land. This, however, changed over the years. As they ventured into other sectors of the farming business, their influence in the area grew, as did their wealth. In the year 1880, they decided to demolish their old small family home and build the grand estate we see today on the grounds with their own private church attached to it. They lived here in peace for over a century. The family was well-known around the area and, even though they remained farmers, they rubbed shoulders with the upperclassmen of the local society. But everything changed in 2015. By then, there were already only a few members of the family left behind, but for no apparent reason, the Caleiro mansion was completely abandoned. Nobody knows what happened to the family or why they left their grand estate behind. Today we are going to explore this mystery, relive the story of the Italian Caleiro family, and venture inside their forgotten mansion. France is renowned for its castles, there are approximately over 50.000 castles in the country and over the many centuries lot of them also got abandoned. The focus of this documentary will be one of the most historical abandoned castles out there. It has been built at the beginning of the 18th century for a noble French family. They had their roots deeply buried in the politics and trade of the local region. Over time the family tinned out until only one person was left this was Laurent Robert II. He had no interest in politics or trade but rather spent his time writing and making numerous books inside of the historic walls. Many of his once written novels are left behind, and we even managed to find some of his transcripts. Around 2 decades ago he passed away and there was nobody left that was willing to take over this place and breed new life into it. Everything inside remains frozen in time, just like the last day customers came strolling through its doors and enjoyed the everlasting beauty and comfort it had to offer. When we came inside we were stunned by what was left behind, it seemed almost too unrealistic, this was by far the best-abandoned hotel we had even discovered. If the walls of this place could speak they would tell stories of adventurous mountaineers and wealthy city dwellers who came here for engulfment in comfort and luxury. The hotel opened in the year 1956, it was a dream come true for a wealthy French businessman, he had planned this project for years and this was his life's work. Over the next 4 decades, he ran this place like a charm and it was a well-regarded hotel and an iconic landmark and destination for the local town. But around 4 decades later everything came crashing down when he got involved in a scandal, this was around the year 1994, his dream got shattered and the place got sealed up forever. A small donation would be greatly appreciated! ► patreon.com/brosofdecayDocumenting historic abandoned treasures is not for the faint of heart, reaching this particular place took us on a journey through a dense forest in the south of France, a journey of multiple hours through difficult to navigate terrain, this combined with no way of telling in which part of the forest we found ourselves made it a very challenging endeavor.Eventually, we made our way out of the forest and we were rewarded with the first glips of lost beauty, a fairytale-like castle build for a rich French family just post World War One.The family had a long-lasting history in the noble sport of Horse racing and build this place in dedication to the sport. Many prestigious horse racing events have take place on the ground of the castle in the last century, but every great story has its ending, the family got into financial trouble and had to sell the castle. When the castle got sold it got a new life and was transformed into a reputable hotel. This was however until the year 2003 when for no apparent reason everything got left behind and nobody seemed to care about this historic beauty anymore. Now almost 2 decades later the castle still remains in its desolated state and is slowly withering away. The club opened in the year 1993 when Portugal experienced a nightclub boom, around this place many more nightclubs opened their doors for young party-goers. But most of them closed only a short while later when the hype was over. Unlike the others, Stressless Discoteca was really stressless and they managed to stay open until the year 2014, this was mostly contributed to their unique concept, own music production, and conservative management. But unfortunately also for them, the time had come to shut their doors. Now 7 years later, everything of their heyday is still left behind, brace yourself because this is going to be a unique exploration, we are going to take you inside and show you what is left behind.
