Sonic Robo Blast 2 - Greenflower Zone 2 (remix) by Tajho
(Draft 24)
Description: The Sonic Stuff Research Group (SSRG) is known for launching the modern day Sonic ROM hacking community, which popularized and made accessible ROM hacking to the general public. It was also the starting point for various game developers, including those that worked on "Sonic Mania". SSRG co-founder Andrew Wolan will take a look back to see what motivated and inspired him to create the site, and it's lasting influence on the community.
(2022 version of original talk from 2021, which has corrections and additional content based on feedback)

Content Corrections:
At 33:52 - Sonic Hacking Competition (SHC) was incorrectly stated as being run by Sonic Retro. It is run independently of Sonic Retro, though it receives promotional support from the folks at Sonic Retro and the current SSRG. (Hence my confusion.) The SHC was first held back in 2002, and was created by Nayr T'nargh, a SSRG staff member. (Whether or not the event was hosted on SSRG or elsewhere is unclear.) As of 2010, the competition is managed by Spanner while the SHC website (https://shc.zone/) is run by Cinossu.

Video Fixes from last time:
Per request, I made sure the audio quality was better this time around compared to the video for the 2021 talk. Most significant complaint was there was too much "echo". Turned out my Sony handicam video camera, which has great audio pick-up for when someone in the audience is talking, was also the source of the excess echo. That audio channel was only used when necessary.
Also, my main camera went haywire once again. Though the zoom was set correctly, it went out of focus after about 15 minutes as the projected image was being adjusted. (The image also came-out darker than I wanted because the bright screen confused the auto contrast mechanism in the camera.) Thankfully, I had a second camera focused on me for the entire talk. However, its footage was recorded video at a lower 720p30 resolution and had to be cropped, which lead to blocky video. Not wanting a repeat of the "blocky" main camera angle footage like last time, I painstakingly enhanced the video clips from that camera angle with Topaz Video Enhancer AI, leading to a picture quality that I am happy with.

The property was seized for back taxes of around $31,000. Auction was for the entire contents of the store, not the building itself.
The store's contents are divided into 106 lots. The auctioneer first tries to auction everything in one giant lot. Regardless of whether he is successful or not, the auctioneer then auctions off each lot. (IE piece meal) Whichever if greater, the combined value of the individual lots auctions or the combine lot, becomes final.
The winning bid for the full lot was $77,000. (Does not include 15% auctioneer fee or MA sales tax.) I did not stick around for the piece meal lot auctions because I highly doubt those lots would sell for a combined value of $77,000 or more. Personally, I valued the goods at $35,000 to $40,000 max, so it sold for double my estimate.
My understanding is that the store owners will receive the proceeds from the auction ($77k - back taxes) or around $46,000.
Whoever bought the lots will be paying around $90k plus taxes. (No tax if they have a reseller certificate.) I personally don’t think they will see that money back unless (a) there are some hidden gems that go for thousands or (b) they are looking to open a store at that location, in which case it's a steal to grab a store with such a strong regional brand name.

Note:
I have privately taken photos of the lots if anyone is curious. (I have few photos taken of the two basement room lots because their was too much stuff to photograph.)
Full version can be found at link below, but my copy is cleaner, at least what I recorded.

Note: this video is in 640x480 format vs the 240p version that is currently on Youtube. It was downloaded from christy2006.com (now defunct) back in 2006 and rediscovered in my personal archives.
Not as impressive today, but a different story back in 2008, which is why I recorded it. The video display is gone today from what I can tell, so that is why I am posting this short video. Besides, who can forget that "La La! La La Square" chant. I sure can't, even after 15 years! :-)
Recorded Sept 2008.
ララスクエア宇都宮 (ra ra sukea utsunomiya ... yes it is written 'ra ra square' and not 'la la square' in Japanese. Odd.)

Video Fixes:
Blurry/blocky video due to rear camera not having the zoom set after restoring power to camera. But on the upside, I got shots of audience members not picked-up with the front camera.
Video can be improve somewhat using Topaz Labs video enhancer, but the process is time consuming. Will consider making an "enhanced" version of the video if this video draws a lot of views.

Captured on VHS tape off of cable TV during original airing.
NOTE: I kept the ads in place because some folks want to see them for nostalgia reasons. (If that is you, then please say "thanks" in the comments.)
So you are trying to replace a bulb in this unit, but after opening up a bell you find out that Carolite, in an attempt to force you to buy their replacement bulbs, purposely left off the electrical property markers on the bulbs, leaving them unmarked. How nice of them ...
Well, I think I figured it out and I believe the correct replacement bulb is as follows: E10, 3.8V 0.2A. (NOT 0.3A) I came to this value by measuring the voltage and current the unit was driving on the lamp socket. I could be wrong, so take my recommendation for what it's worth.
Also, removing the screws can difficult. If you can't remove them with a Phillips-head screwdriver, then use a pair of pliers and twist them from the drive. The heads of the screws are large enough to be gripped. Be sure to put some shipping tape over the unit for you don't accidentally scratch it in case your pliers slip.
You could also try exposing the unit to hot air (like from a space heater) to soften the plastic, though I'd only do this as a last resort.
BTW, does anyone know what kind of screw to buy to replace the ones that came with the kit? (Also, I think the screws are supposed to look rusty on top, but I am not sure. )
Anyhow, if I am wrong with anything here, let me know in the comments below.
Need more help? Message me directly.
Like this video? Let me know. I might make a video on how to repair the Caroline 9 Musical Bell unit. You think this 3-bell unit was difficult, well you haven't seen anything yet!

WWLP - 2019-07-26
Stage 7-Neon Night Riders 2020 A.D of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltes - Turtles in Time (arcade game). I am playing the 2 player cabinet version instead of the 4-player version.
Includes lottery numbers and Rich Tettemer (back when he did sports) at the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002. I left them in the video in case others wanted to see it.
Recorded Feb 3, 2002
This is video is a recording from 4:01pm to 4:18pm, and covers the 1.75" hail that fell near Southwick.
The recording ends because of storm interference. WWLP only had live coverage to around 4:30 PM because by that time it was clear all the action was literally confined south of MA/CT state line. They then switched to "Judge Judy".
NOTES:
1) Video is only 17 minutes long because my TV recording application crashed due to all of the interference on the channel.
2) Towards the end of the video, there is heavy glitching of the video stream. That was due to inference caused by the storm itself. In fact, WWLP was knocked of the air for a short time due to inference.
Fun facts: WWLP transmits on channel 11, which is a VHF frequency. VHF frequencies have greater range that UHF frequencies (channels 17-51), but are susceptible to interference from lightning. But on this day, the interference was unusually bad. Perhaps the storm clouds themselves, which were to the south of me, reflected the TV signal in such a way that it made the signal even worse?

Live coverage on WFSB (channel 3) of the tornadoes and macroburst that touched down in Connecticut on 05-15-2018. This is video is a recording from 4:19pm to 4:51pm. The video continues at 4:53pm in "Part 2" of this video:
youtu.be/uhy6ZEOV_d0
NOTE: The 2-3 minute gap between Part 1 and Part 2 was because I had to reboot my machine due to a hardware fault.
Forgive any glitches in the video stream, for they were caused by interference caused by the lightning.
At 14:13 they show the Southbury & Oxford Tornado on radar, complete with wind speeds.
At 25:00 they show the second tornado over Hamden.
There is a 3 minute gap between Parts 1 and 2 because I had to reboot my machine due to a hardware fault. I stopped recording at around 5:39pm because the event itself had ended.

I've played this level dozens of time and I've never had this happen to me. Nor way I able to land on the sign intentionally. (Even if I walked off to the left and tried to jump back up on the sign, I could not.)
I am wondering if over people were able to pull this off?
NOTE: this is the short version of the video. A longer, 2 min version that was aired later that evening is available on my channel.
Taken at the 2017 Westfield International Airshow. Their jump was the second one performed that afternoon from the C-47.

The New England Patriots celebrate their Super Bowl 51 overtime win with a victory parade in downtown Boston. Presented is the raw, unedited footage of the parade as the duck boats rounded the corner of Boylston St. and Tremont St. which is right next to Boston common. I was right down the road from a battery of TV cameras. I was standing on a ledge, which gave me a nice view over everyone's head.
