This hunt was really a break-through for me. Going after wild turkeys is a combination of woodsmanship and calling. Ever since I'd started to chase turkeys, my calling has always been the weaker of the two skills. Many of my birds have been taken by getting myself in the right location and making as little noise as I needed to. This hunt not only required a lot of calling, but I also used my mouth call for the entire final sequence (3 reed Batwing from Calling All Turkeys). The mouth call for me has always been a weak point, but I put a lot of work in since the last season to improve my abilities. I've still got a lot of work to do though.

Minnesota's first two seasons are lottery only. You can only tag one bird. As an alternative, you can by an archery tag that is good all season. That is what Jared bought, and why he spent this hunt filming me rather than carrying a bow himself. I may drive back up to his neck of the woods to film him later this season.
