In reinforced concrete, proper bar spacing is not optionalβitβs essential for:
Ensuring concrete flows freely during placement.
Allowing aggregate to pass between bars.
Achieving adequate bonding between steel and concrete.
Preventing honeycombing and weak zones.
π According to the guidelines:
β‘οΈ Minimum clear spacing (a) between bars should be:
β₯ Diameter of the bar (if all bars are the same size)
β₯ Diameter of the larger bar (if bars are of different sizes)
β₯ Nominal maximum size of aggregate + 5 mm
β Whichever is maximum among the three becomes your minimum spacing!
