This one is for the moms, dads and grandparents who remember pop music back to the 1930s. On a 1970s CBC Vancouver TV series the guests were Herb, Don and Harry, the legendary Mills Brothers, backed by Vancouver's Doug Parker Orchestra, The African-American jazz and pop vocal family group made more than 2,000 recordings, selling over 50 million copies resulting in at least three dozen gold records. In 1932 they were the first African-Americans to have a network show on radio. They appeared in 20 films between 1932 and 1956. Their first, The Big Broadcast of 1932, starred Bing Crosby, Burns & Allen. They were the first African-Americans to give a command performance before British royalty. They were frequent guests on the Jack Benny, Perry Como, Pat Boone, Dean Martin & Hollywood Palace shows. Their fiftieth anniversary in show business was celebrated in a concert hosted by Bing Crosby. Among countless hits were Tiger Rag, Lazy River, Bye Bye Blackbird, Lulu's Back in Town, Sleepy Head, Ole Rocking Chair, Someday You'll Want Me to Want You, Lazy Bones, The Song is Ended, South of the Border, I'll be Around, Yellow Bird, Paper Doll, If I Had My Way, Cab Driver, Glow Worm (their 5th million seller in 1952) and You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998. Well deserved!
