This negative 16mm Gevaert print (which I’ve reversed to positive) features what is likely the original Belgian theatrical titles to Mickey’s Kangaroo (1935). It starts with the distributor’s logo – Jan Vanderheyden was a famous Belgian filmmaker in the 1930s, but he also handled the distribution of foreign films. The word “presents” is written in all three official languages of Belgium – Dutch, German and French. Then follows another example of that crude Mickey and Minnie card redrawn from the publicity drawing that David Gerstein shared on his blog (ramapithblog.blogspot.com/2012/06/mouse-interrupted.html). On the end title, there’s a little advertisement in French, reading “The Mickey albums are available at every bookstore.” Kind of nice, isn’t it?
