To anyone who may be here for the first time, welcome! The intention of this project is to find the album's best digital source(s), undo any & all previous remastering work and restore the music to exactly how the artist originally intended it to sound!
As far as sound-quality is concerned, this is probably my favourite MJ album of the bunch! Just a sonic masterclass 🙌 Still leaves me in awe just how pristine everything sounds. It outshines all modern music in that regard if you ask me.
Off The Wall has had some really solid digital releases overall. The standouts being the initial 1983 CD, and the more recent MOFI SACD. The former was relatively faithful to the original vinyl releases, just with inferior EQ. If the latter included the original mixes for 'Rock With You' and 'Get On The Floor', I might've considered it my go-to version, but the remixes disrupt the flow too much for my taste.
I'd previously completed a (unreleased) restoration for this album using solely the 1983 CD as the base. That CD was sourced from 1st gen production tapes (used for cutting the vinyls), but the important thing was the dynamics which were completely intact. However, the recent MOFI release changes everything! For the first time ever, these tracks came straight from the master-tapes, and STILL retain their dynamics 🔥
I didn't quite anticipate the level of improvement from the MOFI-sourced tracks 🤯 Ever so slightly cleaner as expected, but the difference in stereo separation was especially impressive 👌 Unsurprisingly, I've kept the 1983 CD as the source for 'Rock With You' and 'Get On The Floor' (which still works completely fine with the rest of the tracks)!
The end result of this 2025 Restoration? It's a digital clone of original USA vinyl in terms of mastering, but the pristine nature of the master-tape sources gives it a newly found edge 👍 I couldn't recommend giving this a listen enough! I'm confident you won't be disappointed 👏👏👏

Its a Christmas Miracle 😉 Just in time for the big day! The Miracle gets the special treatment before I have to start calling them 2025 Restorations 😅
Ill be straight forward in saying, if youre expecting as drastic of a result as some of those early albums, this might not be the installment for you. It may very well be the least drastic, but still absolutely a worthwhile addition 👍
The original CD for this album did a pretty darn good job at representing these tracks in an accurate light, in comparison to the original (UK) vinyl that is. Its mainly just the difference in depth were addressing here, along a few extra bits and pieces here and there...
And the result edges closer to the kind of balance heard on The Miracle Sessions CD from a couple years back, as well as the 5.1 remixes from the GVH2 DVD 👌
The schedule issues Im facing wont be changing anytime soon, so cant guarantee when the next installment is coming. Of course Im hoping itll be sooner rather than later, but who knows 🤷♂️ Anyways, Merry Christmas, and if I dont see you before then, Happy New Year 🙂

*2025 REMASTER*
The original plan was to upload a remaster of the 1st New York show from 1978, but after the incredible new Queen shares over the last couple weeks, I think its safe to say weve all had our fill of the Jazz tour for now. Will keep that one saved for a later date. Instead, we pivot from one stellar show (with average tape quality) to another 👀
This is currently the earliest recording in circulation from the News Of The World tour, and to say its a treat is an understatement! Its the earliest time we get to hear We Will Rock You (slow and fast), Its Late, Im In Love With My Car, Get Down Make Love, Spread Your Wings, Love Of My Life, My Melancholy Blues and We Are The Champions played live 🤯 A lot of these would go on to be staples of their live set for years to come! Truly a historic recording.
Now, to the tape itself. I think it was recorded very well! However, the process of digitizing it wasnt too kind. Ive heard a few different stories as to what mightve happened here, but whatever the case, the show ended up being shared and circulated with primitive and extremely harmful noise reduction, causing irreparable damage to frequencies from the 5KHz mark upwards. And for reasons out of anyones control, the chance of ever getting a fresh transfer of the tape are slim to none 😔
Anyways, what we have is what we have (which Im still incredibly grateful for). And there was still enough room for improvement on this tape to deem a remaster worthwhile. A show of this caliber deserves to be heard in its best form possible, which is what Ive set out to do. Despite the limitations, youll still notice a reasonable difference between the original and this 2025 remaster 🙂
The low frequencies were very buried on the original, but brought to their full potential, it actually sounds beautiful 🙌 The closer I got to the high frequencies, the more carefully I had to tread. Giving that area a full boost results in an overwhelmingly harsh and unnatural sound due to all the damage. In the end though, I was still able to salvage some of these details while keeping the unwanted artifacts to a minimum 👌
On the plus side, it appears the damage from the noise reduction wasnt quite as severe after the first tape flip (before Liar) up until the end of Keep Yourself Alive. Youll notice a subtle improvement in quality during this portion of the show. Well take our wins when we get them 😉

DISCLAIMER:
Regarding this and the other remasters yet to be featured, Ive made a concerted effort to keep a reasonable balance between the time/effort being spent and the actual payoff. Using this show as an example, I couldve potentially spent so many more hours/days/weeks finding and obsessing over any other miniscule artifact which could be present, but at a cost too significant to be deemed worthwhile. Time that could (and has) been spent focusing on a wide range of different shows to share with you over the remainder of 2025 instead 😃
In more simple terms, Ill never claim these live remasters are 100% perfect. But if I can reach 90%+ within a reasonable timeframe and is a noticeable improvement, I absolutely feel its a worthwhile addition to the community. And hey! If any of you feel strongly enough about a certain show and have the urge to add your own final touches, youre more than welcome (with credit of course) 👍

With the Invincible album, its without question that the original CD release had its drawbacks (soundwise). Issues which directly reflect the time period the album was conceived. And more importantly, issues which tend to hamper our overall experience with this album.
The digital mastering techniques implemented during the late 90s into the early 00s were often very harmful to the music. Excessive brick-walling, unnecessary noise reduction and odd EQ choices intended to suit car stereos and such. Unfortunately, this album was a victim of most, if not all of these traits.
However, the vinyl releases (ignoring the 2018 picture disc) werent restricted to such standards, resulting in a much more pleasurable listening experience overall! Using techniques outlined in the COMPARISON VIDEO (https://youtu.be/CeFle3bHlAQ), Ive set out to bring those positive traits over to the existing digital version for an even cleaner sound 🙂
The RESULT? Everything sounds much more MJ-like 🙌 Weve uncovered details that went practically unheard on the original! Overflowing with soul and life, it no longer feels separate from everything else hes released 👌 If youre one of those whove been unimpressed with Invincible based on the existing versions, you NEED to hear it in this state!!! And if youre already a fan of Invincible, you still NEED to hear it in this state!!! 🔥
To me, THIS form of the album feels more like a continuation of the vision they had for Dangerous, with the benefit of the more modern and mature influences 10 years on. If you listen to the original 1991 CD pressing of Dangerous (which has a similar sonic balance) and then the 2025 Restoration of Invincible, Im sure youll see what I mean...

Our final installment of the 2025 MJ Restoration project is here, just in time 🙌 Michaels 2nd to last studio album he ever completed, although some could argue its more of an EP with 5 new tracks, + 8 remixes. Whatever the case, no project involving the King Of Pops discography is complete without this one!

The base source for the restoration was (of course) the original CD release from 1997. The CD itself sounds fine on its own! It did have its drawbacks though. By the late 90s, brick-walling the dynamics to achieve a louder sound was an industry standard. In addition, a certain style of EQ was becoming more fashionable again. Known in some circles as smiley-faced EQ, and what I observe to be more of a low-end and high-mids boost. Everyone has their own opinions on this, but to me, I feel it tends to suck the life out of the music.
The original vinyl release of Blood On The Dance Floor had a more natural approach to the mastering, without the same hinderances the CD was subjected to. The result is much more in line with what weve come to know with MJs other 90s releases 🙂 Ive modelled the 2025 Restoration to sound as close to this as possible. The dynamics were able to be revived for the most part, but have still fallen short in some areas compared to the LP (predominantly the remixes). Bringing the EQ over really makes all the difference though 👌
One other glaring difference with the vinyl release compared to all others is a couple alterations in the track-listing. The remixes for This Time Around and You Are Not Alone actually feature different versions! This Time Around has the full mix which runs 6 minutes longer than the common radio mix, and You Are Not Alone is a shorter edit, paced a lot more similarly to the album version. The 2025 Restoration track-listing has been altered to reflect these differences, and the discarded remixes can still be found as extra tracks 👍

Were back with the full installment of the 2025 Restoration project for Michael Jacksons Dangerous album 😃 Its unlike me to fast-track something like this, but in response to the dissatisfying reviews for the brand-new Mo-fi/MFSL release from just over a week ago, I felt an extreme sense of urgency to right those wrongs for folks who invested their hard-earned money into the SACD and LP.

Using the very same sources as the new SACD for the base, its been gratifying to discover just how great they really are to work with 🙌 In terms of dynamics, certain tracks are a big step up to what we had previously. And upon reverting the mastering to how the original CD and LPs were presented, the result is pure bliss 👌
Working closely on each track individually was a necessity here, as the EQ balance and normalization on each channel varied in a multitude of ways. Additionally, the overall speed for each track was adjusted slightly, edging them closer to the original CD. Some (mostly) minor volume fluctuations during some tracks were present, so these instances were also addressed. Safe to assume most of these differences were simply due to the fresh analogue sources...
One of the major drawbacks I discovered with these new sources, the spacing between the tracks (which is usually 100% faithful with Mofi/MFSL releases) was way off on this one. They were all positioned much closer together, and wee bits of tape at the beginning and end of each track were trimmed shorter as a result. With some careful and seamless merging via the original CD, this has been corrected. Each track now flows along exactly as theyre supposed to 🙂 Additionally, I still deemed the original CD as the superior source for the full intro of Will You Be There 👍
Im extremely grateful towards Mofi for releases like these. While their mastering choices can be divisive at times, theyre non-destructive and the sources themselves are usually top notch 🙏 For those who feel as though they didnt get their moneys worth with the new release, I sincerely hope this 2025 Restoration is more along the lines of what you were clamoring for 👊

Happy 48th Birthday to A Day At The Races!!! 🙌 I feel like I say this every time, but Im really excited to share this installment with you 😃
Two different editions are up for grabs yet again! One based on the original 1976 UK vinyl pressing, and the other based on a release potentially even more treasured, the 1999 EMI Millennium (AAA) vinyl!
Like the DCC edition of ANATO, the Millennium pressing is believed to be a closer reflection of the actual master tapes. And I will say, some of the tracks on this edition have similarities to the MFSL CD. Just not quite as bright and carries a more consistently natural sound through-out. It really is a stunning pressing, and displays just how great of a recording this album is!
As mentioned in the comparisons video, due to significant time constraints, Im unsure when or how the next installment will be presented 😬 Ive got a couple nearly ready to go (one in particular just needs a comparison video whipped up). But if Im still struggling too much for time after a while, itd be unfair to keep the whole installment waiting, so I may end up pushing it forward without the comparison video. Truth be told, I started work on this installment exactly 1 year ago, and its been on and off since then while working around life and making sure deadlines were met for the other installments. The day I decided to take this album on, I quickly realized a few days wouldnt be nearly enough time to whip it up 😅 Id say its one of the biggest tests of patience Ive ever assigned myself.
Now, if only the end result was an indication of how much work was involved. Sadly, I dont think thatll be the case, as this album isnt exactly known for having stellar sound. On the other hand though, the idea that you likely wont notice anything out of the ordinary may just be the best case scenario for me. Again, check out the comparison video to understand what Im talking about. The raw source I opted to use for this album wouldve given you every reason to notice something out of the ordinary...
While this album doesnt exactly qualify as an audiophiles masterpiece, the finished project has finally made me understand why owners of the original UK vinyl rave about this album so much. If you have a good sound system on hand, oh boy, youre in for an experience! Not a polite mix in the slightest, but its full of character, the use of stereo trickery is quite something, and the bass and kick drum certainly makes their presence felt!!!
That experience is no longer exclusive to those who own the UK 1st pressing LP. For the first time ever, we can all enjoy it the way its supposed to sound, in digital form 🙌 Hope you all have fun with this one 🙂

Months and months removed from the last one, were finally back with another Queen-related installment of the 2025 Restoration project 😃
Truth be told, I began work on this album well over two years ago, and its been in a near-complete state ever since then. Fast forward to now, Ive finally acquired the final piece of the puzzle needed in order to finish it! Of all things, the missing piece was a more reliable source of Stop All The Fighting, via a variation of the 1993 Great Pretender CD single 💪
Like the majority of Queen albums weve covered on the project, Mr. Bad Guy in digital form has always suffered. The original 1985 CD was solid, but came with similar hinderances to the likes of The Works, AKOM and Innuendo CDs. In turn, the early vinyl releases have always been considered the superior way of listening to this album. In this particular instance, Ive based the Restoration on the original USA pressing 🙌 Using the original 1985 CD as the base source, it was a breeze to work with! Basically, only the EQ needed adjusting.
Id go as far as saying its a night and day difference, and in my opinion, it suggests the 2019 Remix wasnt as warranted as it was made out to be. But Ill leave that up to you to decide 👀
Additionally, the Extra Tracks folder comes loaded with the extended versions which accompanied the original 12 singles. The 2000 Solo Collection box is our only current digital source for these tracks.
Being 100% honest, I knew the box set had Peter Mews finger prints all over it before I even looked at the credits 🤷 At least around that time period, he had at least three signature mastering techniques, and unfortunately, I could only fully reverse one of them 😢 The two I couldnt do anything about were compression and noise reduction (not all tracks were affected by the latter thankfully). Lucky for us, the obnoxious EQ patterns COULD be undone. For those who arent aware, hed always boost the upper bass and upper mids/lower treble areas, leaving the lower mids sucked away of any life.
Before the 2025 Restoration, I was never able to listen to the extended versions all the way through. To my ears at least, they sounded SOOOO bad 😖 But now theyre restored, I can listen to them no problem and finally appreciate just how fun some of them are 🤘
The way I reversed those EQ patterns accurately was simple. By measuring the original Mr. Bad Guy CD up against the one Peter Mew remastered for the box set, cancelling out the differences and applying those same changes to the extended versions. From there, I implemented the same adjustments I used on the main album to match the vinyl pressing. Easy as that. No offense to Mr. Mew, but this is how cut and paste his mastering techniques were at the time. In terms of this project, HE was the only real Bad Guy 😉 (Im being tongue-in-cheek obviously, no hard feelings towards the man)...
No comparisons video sadly! Its a struggle to find the time to make one to an acceptable standard at this time. But anyways, hope you enjoy 😁

2024 REMASTER & 3-SOURCE MATRIX
This new version of Queens first stop on the Magic Tour brings my already-released remaster of Source 1 together with my newly-remastered Source 2, patched with a previously-uncirculated Source 3 (also remastered by me).
historicman on the Queen forums is to thank for all this! I worked on each source individually, and he took on the challenge of creating this matrix, which I doubt Id have ever attempted myself! I made a remark on the forums under my source 1 remaster how I didnt really see enough value in a possible matrix with source 2, and I couldnt be more happy to be proven wrong!
Despite each source being remastered similarly, source 2 brings more atmosphere to the table, as well as a layer of depth/warmth (which is difficult to capture on an outdoor recording)! After historicman completed his matrix, I went back in and rebalanced the EQ to ensure none of the clarity from source 1 was lost. Will leave it up to you to decide, but I certainly think this is the new best way to experience the gig 🙂

The new Matrix wouldnt make sense if it werent for Rubs excellent work on remastering all three audience recordings. My task was limited to matching the speed of the two main sources and mixing the whole thing. The hardest part was working on the second encore due to the drop in quality of the recording in source one, it looked like the speed changed every 5 seconds and through the audience screams it was hard to tell where the drum beat started and where it ended. I hope you find the result of my work on this part satisfactory. As a purist when it comes to filling in any gaps in the recordings, I used Bobs kindly lent source three, remastered by Rub to fill in the gap after BoRhap and in the audience cheering after CLTCL, so the final result presents the concert as 100% complete.

Its a Christmas Miracle 😉 Just in time for the big day! The Miracle gets the special treatment before I have to start calling them 2025 Restorations 😅
Ill be straight forward in saying, if youre expecting as drastic of a result as some of those early albums, this might not be the installment for you. It may very well be the least drastic, but still absolutely a worthwhile addition 👍
The original CD for this album did a pretty darn good job at representing these tracks in an accurate light, in comparison to the original (UK) vinyl that is. Its mainly just the difference in depth were addressing here, along a few extra bits and pieces here and there...
And the result edges closer to the kind of balance heard on The Miracle Sessions CD from a couple years back, as well as the 5.1 remixes from the GVH2 DVD 👌
The schedule issues Im facing wont be changing anytime soon, so cant guarantee when the next installment is coming. Of course Im hoping itll be sooner rather than later, but who knows 🤷♂️ Anyways, Merry Christmas, and if I dont see you before then, Happy New Year 🙂
