UKRI-NERC, FCDO and Defra host the International Environment and Climate symposium in Nairobi UK Research and Innovation 2024-10-09 | In September, the International Environment and Climate Research Symposium brought together 84 practitioners, researchers, and representatives of indigenous peoples’ organisations from three of the United Kingdom’s largest environment and climate research programmes. Grant holders from NERC’s ‘Equitable nature-based climate resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa’ programme joined representatives from the FCDO-led ‘Reversing Environmental Degradation in Africa and Asia’ (REDAA), and Defra-led ‘Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate’ (GCBC) programmes. Dr Kathleen Sedgley: BrisSynBio and the importance of Scientific Managers UK Research and Innovation 2024-09-27 | Dr Kathleen Sedgley is the Scientific Manager for the University of Bristol's (UoBs) synthetic and engineering biology research institute, and has successfully managed several UoB centres and programmes including the entirety of BrisSynBio and BrisEngBio.BrisSynBio, UoB’s Synthetic Biology Research Centre, specialised in biomolecular design and engineering within synthetic biology.This was succeeded by an National Engineering Biology Programme Transition Award, which was established to accelerate and translate UoB’s synthetic biology research.Kathleen’s journey began back in 2007, when she supported a BBSRC Network in Synthetic Biology. Since then, her career has weaved through an array of projects, creating strength as it went.
