In this sixth session of a 10-part global webinar series from the Lausanne Movement’s Leadership Development Issue Network, we explore mercy in leadership through Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount.
Drawing from Matthew 5:7—“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy”—Francis K. Tsui explores why mercy is not simply an occasional act, but a character quality at the heart of Christlike leadership. Looking to the words and example of Jesus, he shows how mercy shapes the way leaders see people, respond to failure, exercise accountability, offer forgiveness, and pursue restoration.
Through biblical reflection and practical wisdom, this session explores:
- Why mercy begins in the heart and character of the leader
- How compassion moves leaders toward practical and sometimes costly action
- Why mercy and truth must work together in Christlike leadership
- How merciful leaders respond to failure with accountability and restoration
- Why receiving God’s mercy enables us to extend mercy and forgiveness to others
This webinar invites leaders to see mercy not as weakness, but as Christlike strength—the willingness to see, act, restore, forgive, and lead others from the mercy we have first received from God.
