Again we are really sorry about the tube going out of view at the end of the video. We accidentally zoomed too far but didn't pay attention to the screen.

We start off from the cleaned HgCO3 x HgO precipitate from the previous video. For this, we washed the precipitate 5 x using demineralized water. Then we add Nitric acid to it, which immediately decolorizes the compound forming the soluble Hg(NO3)2. As we boil off the HNO3 and water you can see the colorless Hg(NO3)2 before it decomposes to the oxide forming a lot of NOx fumes.

In the end, we ended up with a bright orange substance, much like with our Carbonate decomposition.

As explained in our HgO (yellow) video before a thermal decomposition gives bigger HgO flakes, which appear to be more redshifted.
