To mark NAIDOC Week, we’re celebrating the work of writer, poet, 2018 Australian Poetry Slam Champion and proud Djapu woman Melanie Mununggurr, a prolific voice for this generation and generations to come.
Created in partnership with MECCA M-POWER, Mununggurr's powerful and thought-provoking poem 'Stars. Light. Galaxies' explores the experiences of women (particularly women of colour, queer women and trans women) in today's world and all the possibilities that the future holds. Mununggurr also turned the poem into a film, which you can watch below – or read the poem and our full interview with her on The MECCA Memo.
This film was co-produced by Wolf Tide Films, Einwick Films and MECCA M-POWER. Directed by Jonathan May and Philip Einwick, with Executive Producer Lisa Boston.
