This new mechanic introduces Link Charges, a Link Holder feature, and an enraged battle phase that requires players to actively use Mega Pokémon to break through shields. If you raid regularly, this changes strategy in a massive way.
So what exactly are Super Mega Raids?
Unlike traditional Mega Raids, this system adds a layered mechanic that appears designed for higher-difficulty encounters and future headline bosses. During these raids, trainers will notice a new enraged phase where the raid boss activates protective shields. In order to break those shields efficiently, an active Mega Evolution is required. This puts even more emphasis on proper Mega preparation, typing advantages, and team coordination.
The introduction of Link Charges and a Link Holder also suggests a brand-new resource economy around raiding. These may become valuable commodities that you’ll need to farm strategically in order to access or maximize these Super Mega encounters. This is no small tweak — it feels like infrastructure for something much bigger.
