In this short video essay you learn all about the Medium Shot in movies, why they are used and how they serve to start emphasizing character expressions/emotions/object details and reduce distractions from the environment. Medium shots are any shots that start to cut off part of the body of the character. They have more emphasis on character emotion and are therefore common for dialogue, but still wide enough to allow for some action or movement within the frame as well.
