An artist of continually rising reputation, Maze 28 is another welcome returnee to the Meanwhile imprint. With a debut solo EP to showcase, the reptilian “Iguana / Cobra / Komodo” takes centre stage.
Under his Maze 28 moniker, Durrës-born Mario Zefi has become a leading figure in the underground dance fraternity with a plethora of Progressive House hits and occasional forays into Melodic Techno and Electronica arenas. Debuting in 2020 at eighteen, the Albanian star transitioned fully into the Progressive House arena with 2023’s “Redux/Flux” on the Beatport number one selling Mango Alley. Since then, Balance Music, UV, Anjunadeep and Alex O’Rion’s Solis Records have all featured the Maze 28 sound – including a return to Mango Alley in late 2025 for the“Leave the World Behind” album – as Albania’s leading progressive export continues to go from strength to strength.
Having thrilled with “Superbloom” on “Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 4” in September 2024, “Iguana” sees Maze 28 open proceedings with a thumping rhythmic powerhouse that provides dancefloor vibrancy courtesy of a rapid-fire percussive top line. A swung 16th note bassline ups the pace further as layers of effects and subtle melodics evolve with ease. Replete with white-noise risers at the breakdown, the track explodes into the second half with a sliced vocal cut as the rhythmic intensity of earlier phases continues.
“Cobra” continues the dark and unwavering bassline intensity of its predecessor as hefty beat and head-shaking hats create club-friendly fervour. Metronomic intensity continues as a pitched vocal phrase adds gravitas. Elegant melodic flourishes create further intrigue as does a siren-effect at the breakdown, reaching a powerful zenith before finding its way back to the beat-laden intensity.
The final track reveals an oriental-themed percussion element that develops hypnotically across “Komodo”. Flooded with spine-tingling chord progressions, the rhythmic force of partner tracks is replicated here but a glorious breakdown of free-flowing motif and dizzying pads and risers creates a devastating platform for additional elements to extend into the second half in glorious dance-friendly technicolour.

There are tracks that outlive the moment of their making… Downriver, Roger Martinezs debut on Guy Js Lost & Found imprint, was one of those. A hypnotic, chunky piece that locked you into a shamanic spell, aided by the atmospheric sounds of the jungle riding over a filtered groove. Chunky yet restrained, holding the vibe, before an enchanting vocal dropped and rearranged everything you thought you knew about the track. Released in 2015, it became one of the defining statements of that particular strain of deep, patient, story-driven progressive music.
A decade on, HIGHER STATES returns to the source. Two remixers are handed the original, each arriving from a very different point on the map. Nicolás Rada has been at the forefront of the Progressive House scene for the better part of two decades, building a catalogue that spans Nick Warrens The Soundgarden and Hernan Cattaneos Sudbeat, with over 400 production credits to his name. Heavily influenced by progressive rock roots, he always understood that a track is a narrative: something that moves, that breathes, that slowly builds and goes somewhere. His rework of Downriver arrives from that same place of deep listening.
Spencer Brown is a San Francisco artist who mainly releases on Anjunadeep, Bedrock and his own diviine label. Having charted at the top of the Beatport charts across Progressive House, House, Techno, Trance and Deep House, this restlessness is less dilettantism than it is a producer who genuinely cannot be contained by genre. Spencer reinterprets the original in a mystical way, airing out the original vocal sequence and focusing and accentuating the bass pattern of the original piece.

These incredible two-sides-of-the same-coin tracks balance emotional depth with danceability showcasing a cohesive artistic vision, blending emotion, energy, and movement while reaffirming a distinctive approach to modern progressive house.
Press ‘play’ on Everlong and you will see what I mean. A bright, bold beat immediately starts to make you smile. A sweet, bouncy A-C-G bassline will get you moving in your seat. This is evolution, not revolution, as layers of joyous synth creep up slowly, uplifting you slightly more every second. By the time the arpeggiated synth topline comes in, you’re hooked.
Emi Galván tells more: Everlong explores the concept of eternal life through a powerful and melodic structure, gradually building intensity with soaring harmonies and a driving energy that feels both uplifting and timeless. The track is designed to give you a sense of expansion and connection, making it a strong weapon for peak-time moments.’
Next up is the broody, tense Lies. Starrting with a chaka-chocalho rhythm, the deep sleazy synth bass takes you back below the canopy, where the campfire roars in the clearing. The intensity builds to a clave at two minutes so intense, like you are being gunned down by music. Sublime stuff. From here, Lies calms and rebuilds with a hidden two-word vocal deep in the mix.
Emi Galván gives a deeper explanation: ‘Lies has a more personal and grounded narrative, inspired by the deception of a past relationship. This story is translated into a deep, groove-driven progressive house cut, where rhythm and tension take center stage. With its hypnotic flow and subtle attitude, the track invites you into the darker, more introspective side of Everlong / Lies.’
Hermanez’s remix of Everlong stays true to the original, whilst adding something dark. Whereas the original stays joyous high in the ether, the Hermanez remix lets you float like a helium baloon, before tugging on your string to bring you back where they all float down. Ruben Karapetyan’s remix keeps the dance / float aesthetic, adding to the complexity drum patterns, washing the dreamy synths between background and foreground, with a pivotal buildup around 5 minutes.

Irishman Matador is an underground mainstay who has constantly innovated in the studio and always serves up scintillating soundtracks in the club. Easy Up is an atmospheric and deep roller with soft but firmly rooted kicks and wispy synths. Theres a sense of suspense as it unfolds, with vulnerable male vocals adding to the fragile motions while the bassline adds real weight. Its a great trip that makes a lasting impact. Another Level is more edgy and direct. Searching, sonar-like blips pulse over the progressive drums while more stark chords light things up with a futuristic twist.
These are two well crafted tracks that blend immersive sound designs with real club-ready energy.

An artist with a rich history in the underground house scene, Berni Turletti has been a renowned figure for over a decade, now making his Proportion debut.
From Córdoba at the foothills of the Sierra Chicas, the Berni Turletti has carved out a sizeable niche for himself with more than a double century of production credits, signed to the likes of Roger Martinez’s HIGHER STATES, Alex O’Rion’s Solis Recordings and fellow countryman, Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music. Not an artist short of admirers, the Argentine has thus seen additional support from the likes of Sasha, John Digweed and Nick Warren.
A regular across the clubs of his homeland, Bahrein in Buenos Aires, Dorian Gray in Córdoba and Mendoza in Tucuman, Berni is no stranger to spellbinding sonic journeys behind the decks as well as magical production work in the studio.
Now making his Proportion debut, “Echoes of Lotus” is stunningly arranged into an “Intro Mix” that gently gathers pace after a stunning beatless opening that showcases an array of rippling arp, cadenced pluck and sweeping pad textures. A heavy beat enters the fray at the 2-minute mark, heralding a strong rhythmic framework for the free-flowing melodic textures that sit atop as hi-hats and shakers create subtle dancefloor intensity. Waxing and waning with ease, the track is a prescient reminder of Berni’s impressive talent.
Partner track, “Obsidian Bloom” opens with more traditional club-friendly characteristics as a four-to-the-floor kick creates a sturdy backdrop for ticking hi-hats and syncopated bassline to form a dark and dynamic foundation. A swirling lead adds sonic intrigue as it rises and falls with filtered intensity, sharing its space with a huge sweeping pad and white-noise effects. A stripped-back breakdown provides a moment for reflection as the third movement erupts via a filtered snare-roll, before dropping back into the powerful groove and a new immaculately placed melody that takes the track in an energising new direction in the second half.
