We highlighted how 14 consecutive years of annual concerts helped grow this incredible string program from just 40 students to over 700! That’s the power of consistent recruitment and retention.
This success is thanks to the visionary leadership of orchestra director and musician Heather Gonzalez. I was also joined by one of the program’s standout students, Humberto Sanchez—a shining example of how long-term music education can shape a student’s brain, emotional intelligence, and creativity.
Humberto has participated in our EYS concerts for many years and attended my summer camp, MWROC. This fall, he’ll be attending Northwestern University on a full scholarship, majoring in engineering with a minor in music.
Music has a profound impact on brain development, social skills, and physical coordination. Let’s keep supporting school music programs!
Remember: one of the smartest people in history—Albert Einstein—played the violin his whole life!
