After how brutal this ROM hack was early on, a fully powered-up Mario is an absolute BEAST. With the Hammer ability ready to go, Thunderbird went down surprisingly quickly.

Turns out replacing Link with Mario doesn’t just look cool — he’s incredibly fun to play once you get him powered up!
