For my second feature of DS Sunday this week, I am honoured to present a new project of old school dungeon synth from Joan Llopis Doménech; artist of the distinct style behind some of the most striking album covers of recent years including bands such as Lustre, Wolvencrown, Weress, Sojourner, and Dark Dungeon Fest, Echoes from the Dungeon, Fiadh Productions among many many others you will undoubtedly recognise.
Mandragora Autumnalis is the artist’s invocation of arcane ambience and hallucinatory melody, themed around a wizard brewing potions in his castle laboratory. This is a secluded, hermetic dungeon synth of magical potency and natural intoxication.
It is also another excellent example of the great lineage of dungeon synth with vocals; a submerged rawness of ethereal and ancient entities making their presence felt, in spite of this common misconception of dungeon synth being purely instrumental.
This is pure, and true, indeed, full of character and entrancing composition.

DS Sunday intro banners for this month feature the work of French artist François Garas (1866-1925). A mysterious, and enigmatic architect involved in the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Garas created utopian, dreamlike compositions seeking to translate ideas, sensations and musical rhythms into architectural structures. His signature works are ‘Artists' Interiors’ and ‘Temples for Future Religions’, dedicated to the great composers Beethoven and Wagner, and themes of ‘Life’, ‘Death’, and ‘Thought’.
