Heidi Cheerman, PT, DPT, MS, NCS from Northeastern University introduces the idea of maladaptive neuroplasticity - the idea that our brains can learn unwanted movement patterns or compensations that make it harder to learn the correct movement strategies later on in our recovery. Heidi talks through some of her strategies for how to progress her patients as quickly and safely as possible using techniques like body weight support and treadmill walking to help prevent the development of some of these compensatory behaviors early on in recovery.
