Emily Snee | Making an Edwardian Gibson Girl Blouse from OLD BEDSHEETS and OFF CUT Lace (w no pattern 😬) @EmilySnee | Uploaded January 2021 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
I made this Edwardian inspired blouse out of an upcycled bedsheet and some end-roll lace. I tried a historical 1903 shirtwaist pattern without success, so ended up draping and drafting the shirtwaist myself to get the size and shape right. I really wanted to achieve and emphasise that iconic Victorian/Edwardian pigeon chested silhouette, so used a lot of gathering in the front of the blouse and with the gathered puff sleeves.
I wanted to go for some slightly gothic, dark academia vibes and I think I achieved what I set out to do (even if there were MANY hiccups).
I'm making this blouse/shirtwaist for a full costume inspired by my favourite book The Night Circus by writer Erin Morgenstern for the Foundations Revealed 2021 Contest.
